Position Summary The QA Inspector is the dedicated owner of quality verification in the paint/coating area and at shipping. This role confirms that coated product meets the drawing paint specification and that every structural piece and hardware item leaving the shop matches the current drawing revision and packing list. The Inspector holds nonconforming product, documents results on required QC forms, and signs off Pre-Shipment Verification before a truck leaves the yard. This position closes two operational gaps: consistent coating inspection independent of production self-checks, and a single person accountable for final load verification so hardware and structural pieces are not missed. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Paint / Coating Inspection Verify surface preparation (sandblast) meets specified profile requirements before coating is applied. Confirm the correct paint system is being applied per the drawing paint specification, including product, number of coats, and mil thickness. Take and record dry film thickness (DFT) gauge readings on all coated pieces. Perform visual inspection for holidays, runs, sags, bare spots, overspray, and damage. Verify galvanized pieces returning from subcontractors are undamaged and meet specification. Document all coating inspection results on QC inspection forms. Hold nonconforming product and initiate Nonconformance Reports (NCRs) when coating does not meet specification.

Shipping / Pre

-Shipment Verification Verify the packing list matches the current drawing revision Bill of Materials (BOM) and catch revision mismatches before product leaves. Count every structural piece and hardware item against the packing list and confirm it is physically on the truck. Verify piece marks are legible and match the approved drawing. Perform random dimensional spot-checks on pieces before they ship. Confirm hardware (bolts, nuts, washers) is packed, labeled, and secured. Walk the staging area after loading to ensure nothing was left behind. Complete the Pre-Shipment Verification form and sign off before the truck leaves. Coordinate with the Project Manager on load readiness and required documentation. General Quality Duties Maintain calibration of DFT gauges and measuring tools used in assigned areas. Keep inspection records organized and audit-ready to support AISC and

ISO 9001

requirements. Flag recurring quality issues to the Quality Manager for corrective action. Follow all shop safety practices and keep work areas and inspection equipment clean and in working order. Represent LaX in a professional manner at all times. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications Required Detail-oriented, organized, and able to work independently with a high degree of accuracy. Ability to read fabrication drawings, bills of materials, packing lists, and paint specifications. Comfortable working in a metal fabrication shop environment. Reliable attendance and ability to work 1st shift. Ability to communicate findings clearly to production, shipping, and project management. Preferred Prior quality, inspection, coating, or shipping verification experience in fabrication, structural steel, or a related shop environment. Familiarity with dry film thickness measurement, surface-prep profiles, or coating systems. Experience with nonconformance reporting or

documentation practices. Forklift operation experience. No certifications are required at hire. LaX will train the successful candidate on all processes, inspection forms, DFT equipment, and quality procedures. Work Environment and Physical Requirements This is a shop-floor position. The Inspector spends the majority of the shift in the paint/coating and shipping/staging areas. Work includes standing and walking for extended periods, climbing onto or around loads as needed for piece-count and visual checks, and medium-duty lifting. The environment includes typical fabrication conditions: noise, dust, paint/coating fumes in designated areas, and seasonal temperature variation. Personal protective equipment is required as specified by shop safety rules. Independence of Quality QC activities are independent of the production team. This position reports to the Quality Manager, not to shop supervision, to avoid conflicts of interest when holding product, initiating NCRs, or declining a load that does not meet specification.

Pay:

$18.00 - $21.00 per hour
