The Quality Technician is responsible for supporting customer quality claims, product testing, quality investigations, and continuous improvement activities within a manufacturing environment. This role manages quality and commercial customer claims from initial notification through resolution, including coordinating product returns, investigating concerns, determining root causes, evaluating product disposition, and communicating findings. In addition to customer claims, the Quality Technician performs internal testing, evaluates production deviations, supports corrective actions, and partners with Production, Engineering, suppliers, and technical teams to resolve product and process issues. This is a hands-on position requiring strong problem-solving skills, technical aptitude, organization, and the ability to communicate effectively with both customers and internal teams.
Responsibilities Customer Claims Management Manage quality and commercial customer claims from initiation through final resolution. Review customer concerns and gather the information necessary to begin quality investigations. Issue Return Material Authorization (RMA) numbers and coordinate product returns. Track returned products through the evaluation and resolution process. Investigate product quality concerns and determine potential root causes. Evaluate returned, suspect, or nonconforming products and recommend appropriate disposition. Determine whether customer claims are valid based on testing, documentation, and investigation findings. Issue credit notes for validated customer claims. Maintain accurate and complete records of customer claims, investigations, findings, and resolutions. Communicate claim status and technical findings to internal stakeholders. Coordinate with technical resources when additional product expertise is required. Communicate directly with customers regarding technical findings and claim resolutions when necessary. Ensure customer concerns are handled professionally, accurately, and within appropriate timelines. Identify recurring customer quality concerns and communicate trends that may require further investigation or corrective action. Quality Investigations & Product Testing Conduct internal product testing according to established work instructions, specifications, and quality procedures. Perform testing necessary to support customer claims, production concerns, and product evaluations. Analyze test results and determine whether products meet established quality and performance requirements. Document testing methods, observations, results, and conclusions accurately. Investigate product failures and quality concerns using structured problem-solving techniques. Support root cause analysis to determine the underlying causes of product and process issues. Assist with the development and implementation of corrective actions. Support Corrective and Preventive Action (CAPA) activities as required. Verify that corrective actions appropriately address identified quality concerns. Maintain organized testing records and supporting quality documentation. Manufacturing Quality Support Review and validate production deviations according to established quality procedures. Evaluate products associated with production deviations and determine appropriate disposition. Work directly with Production to investigate manufacturing-related quality concerns. Support resolution of nonconforming product and process issues. Partner with Engineering and technical teams when additional analysis is required. Coordinate with suppliers when quality concerns involve purchased materials or components. Support new product introductions into manufacturing processes. Assist with product and process evaluations during new product implementation. Provide quality input regarding manufacturing concerns, product performance, and potential improvements. Ensure established quality procedures and work instructions are followed when evaluating products. Continuous Improvement Participate in continuous improvement initiatives focused on product quality and process performance. Identify recurring quality issues and opportunities to improve manufacturing processes. Analyze quality information and testing results to identify trends. Recommend improvements based on investigation findings and available data. Work cross-functionally to implement solutions that improve product quality and reduce recurring issues. Support efforts to improve testing methods, quality procedures, and documentation. Assist with evaluating the effectiveness of implemented improvements. Promote a problem-solving approach focused on preventing repeat quality issues. Applications & Technical Support Provide technical support to application and product teams. Assist internal teams with product quality, application, and performance questions. Conduct benchmark testing against competitor and market products. Perform product evaluations and performance assessments. Develop testing plans or follow established testing procedures based on evaluation requirements. Analyze and interpret test data. Prepare clear reports summarizing test results, findings, and recommendations. Communicate technical information in a manner that can be understood by both technical and non-technical stakeholders. Support product teams with information needed to evaluate product performance and potential improvements. Requirements Education High school diploma or equivalent required. Experience Minimum 2 years of hands-on experience in a quality, manufacturing, or industrial environment. Experience supporting quality investigations, testing, and corrective actions. Experience working with manufacturing quality processes and procedures. Experience investigating product or process-related issues. Customer-facing quality or technical support experience preferred. Experience managing customer complaints, product returns, RMAs, or commercial claims is preferred. Experience working cross-functionally with Production, Engineering, suppliers, or technical teams is beneficial. Technical Skills Working knowledge of quality systems and procedures. Experience with root cause analysis and structured problem-solving techniques. Understanding of product testing and validation processes. Knowledge of Corrective and Preventive Action (CAPA) processes. Ability to evaluate quality concerns and recommend appropriate corrective actions. Ability to analyze testing and quality data. Strong documentation and reporting abilities. Ability to interpret technical information and communicate findings clearly. Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Access. Ability to organize and maintain quality records, testing results, and customer claim documentation. Ability to communicate professionally with customers regarding quality concerns. Ability to clearly explain technical findings and investigation results. Strong collaboration skills when working with Production, Engineering, technical teams, suppliers, and customers. Ability to build productive working relationships across multiple departments. Comfortable escalating concerns and requesting additional technical support when necessary. Travel & Additional Requirements Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record. Valid passport. Legal right to work in the United States. Ability and willingness to travel occasionally. Travel may include both domestic and international locations. Ideal Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate will have at least 2 years of hands-on manufacturing or industrial quality experience and be comfortable working on both the technical and customer-facing sides of quality. This individual should understand how to investigate a product concern, perform or coordinate testing, analyze results, identify root causes, document findings, and help drive the issue through corrective action and final resolution. A strong candidate will have exposure to customer claims, RMAs, nonconforming products, root cause analysis, CAPA, product testing, and quality documentation. They should also be comfortable working directly with manufacturing teams and communicating with customers when quality issues arise.
