16700 JOB SUMMARY Operation of steam generating equipment in a safe and efficient manner. To supply steam, compressed air, raw water and soft water to the plant in the amount required for production of product, also to supply high pressure wash-down.
PRINCIPLE ACCOUNTABILITIES
Boiler and equipment must be able to manipulate and have knowledge of entire steam plant. Operation of centrifugal pumps and motors. Must be able to understand pumps operation and application Operation of air compressors and air dryer. Must know operating procedures and parameters of air equipment Operation of water softeners and understand how they function. Must be able to chemically test water for hardness Chemistry of boiler water and feed water. Must know required chemical parameter and how to maintain the proper levels Know emergency procedures for various problems that occur with steam plant, major steam leaks, low water and firing of boilers Operation of well and water systems Must know location of wells and how to manipulate system in its various modes Painting and housekeeping Check and test Geneva plant eye washes and safety showers and make corrections as outlined in program Check fire extinguishers following established schedule Maintain planned maintenance schedules on boiler room equipment check and inspect fire extinguishers at Geneva and Portland monthly and make corrections as required by program outline Check all ladders and report all dangers
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Good work history Should have background in running equipment Read water chemistry Records and files on fire extinguishers Records and files on boiler, water and air equipment
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Steam plant operation and theory of steam formation Must know the theory of fuel combustion Must know basic water chemistry and effects on boilers Must understand heat transfer properties Basic electrical knowledge Must be literate in English and possess basic mathematics skills On the job training of Water systems, Compressors operation, Steam plant operation, and how to perform chemical test. Will take a test on boiler system as part of on the job training
