Position Overview:
The Boiler Operator responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the boiler for the asphalt storage tanks. The operation of the boiler house is done in accordance with the Massachusetts General Law Chapter 146, CMR 522 and All States Standard Operating Procedures for the Steam Boiler Operation.
Essential Functions:
The following list is intended to be exemplary of the functions and physical demands of the position however it is not exhaustive of all day-to-day activities. The incumbent will be required to perform any or all of the following in a given day or week: Must perform cold start up and shutdowns on a 300 HP Sellers Engineering fire tube base boiler, which provides 10,000 PPH of saturated steam at 150 psi, to a closed loop steam/condensate circuit, used for heating 24 rail cars to the proper temperature, while staying in direct contact with the outside operators. Performs daily hourly rounds of the boiler and auxiliary equipment. Perform daily water chemistry tests during the day and night shifts to maintain proper chemical residuals in the boiler and the steam/condensate circuit. Responsible for documenting on shift-by-shift basis, daily rounds, the operation of the boiler plant as a whole in the operator's state logbook and boiler chemical usage Must track the inventory of various boiler house parts and supplies. While performing the duties of this position the incumbent is regularly required to stand for up to 10-12 hours (rest breaks as required by law will be provided), use hand, handle or feel, reach with hands and arms, talk or hear, walk, climb stairs, stoop, bend, twist, kneel and crouch; Must be able to consistently lift and/or manipulate with push/pull force +/- 50 pounds; Follow and stay up-to-date with all Standard Operating Procedures, Process Control Guidelines, Safe Work Practices; comply with all applicable Environmental, Health & Safety regulations and directives. Flexibility with regard to schedule working extended hours, nights, weekends, and holidays when business needs dictate.
Position Requirements:
Current Fireman's or Engineer's License issued by the Massachusetts Department of Public Safety. Minimum of one year of boiler operating experience. High school diploma or equivalent required. Reliable, responsible, honest, and organized, with the ability to exercise sound judgment. Basic math skills and strong communication skills. Previous industry-related experience is a plus. Performs related and unrelated duties as may be required.

The employee must be able to push levers forward and backwards. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, climb stairs, stoop, bend, twist, kneel and crouch. Employee may sit for an hour or more at a time.
Work Conditions:
Incumbent must be able to tolerate moderate to loud noise level (PPE will be provided, including hearing protection as required), long hours standing, walking, occasional work outside during the shift.
Independent Action:
Performs work independently within scope of established guidelines and practices. Consults with Chief Boiler Operator and/ or Terminal Management where clarification or exception to procedure may be required.
