Full-time, 40 hours per week
Schedule:
Monday-Thursday, 7:00 a.m.-5:30 p.m. About the Position We are seeking a dependable, detail-oriented craftsperson to join our small team in producing world-class axes. This is not a traditional manufacturing job or an assembly-line position. Our axes are made by hand by a close-knit team of craftspeople who are passionate about their work. Every axe receives individual attention, and each step requires skill, patience, and pride in the finished product. This hands-on position focuses on fitting wooden handles to custom axe heads with a drawknife, sharpening axe edges, and polishing finished axes. We are looking for someone who appreciates craftsmanship and wants to become highly skilled at their trade. Job Duties Shape wooden axe handles with a drawknife to achieve a precise fit for custom axe heads Hang and securely fit axe heads onto handles Sharpen axes to the required edge geometry and finish Grind and polish axe heads Inspect completed work for proper fit, alignment, sharpness, and appearance Safely operate and maintain hand tools, grinders, sanders, and polishing equipment Keep the workshop clean, safe, and organized Follow established quality and safety procedures Work closely with other craftspeople to maintain our standards of quality Take pride in producing exceptional, handmade tools Qualifications Experience with woodworking or metalworking is preferred Strong attention to detail and a commitment to high-quality work Good hand-eye coordination Comfortable using hand tools and power tools Ability to perform repetitive, hands-on work throughout the day Ability to stand for extended periods and safely lift and handle shop materials Dependable and able to work the full Monday-Thursday schedule Willingness to learn, accept feedback, and continually improve An appreciation for handmade tools and traditional craftsmanship What We Value We are a small team, so every person and every finished axe matters. The right candidate does not need to know everything on the first day - this job comes with extensive training. However, they must be willing to learn, care about the details, and take pride in helping us create some of the finest axes in the world. Work Environment This is an active workshop position involving wood dust, metal dust, noise, sharp tools, grinding equipment, and polishing machinery. Team members must consistently follow shop safety procedures and use the required personal protective equipment.
Pay:
From $21.00 per hour
