ABOUT THE ROLE
Amsted Automotive is looking for a Tool Crib Attendant to support the tool makers and production in the preparing, polishing, and inspecting of tools used in the manufacturing operations. This role combines precision tool polishing with tool crib responsibilities to ensure tooling is properly cleaned, finished, staged, inspected, and available to support production requirements. This position supports production by extending tool life, reducing defects, and ensuring tooling meets print and process requirements. The role requires precision handwork, attention to detail, and collaboration with Engineering and Production. The position plays a critical role in extending tool life, maintaining dimensional accuracy, and ensuring tooling readiness while following established work instructions and quality standards. 2nd Shift Monday- Friday 2:30pm - 11:00pm. Work is performed in a typical manufacturing environment with exposure to noise, grease, carbon, coolants, with several elements continuously present to the extent of being objectionable. Full-time position. May require overtime, on-call, and weekend hours.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
Stack tools according to production schedules and applicable work instructions. Polish powder metal tooling including dies, punches, core rods, and related components to specified surface finishes and tolerances. Use manual polishing methods including stones, diamond compounds, lapping, and other precision finishing techniques. Clean tools following production run in accordance with established work instructions. Measure critical tool dimensions for wear and perform inspections per work instructions. Inspect tooling using microscopes, comparators, and measuring instruments as needed to verify surface finish and dimensional compliance. Identify tooling defects such as wear, scratches, galling, or pitting and perform corrective polishing or refinishing. Maintain critical geometry and tolerances during polishing to ensure proper tool performance. Return cleaned, polished, and inspected tooling to designated storage locations. Initiate tooling work orders when required and document tooling condition and repairs. Receive incoming tooling from vendors and verify shipment accuracy. Prepare and ship tooling to vendors or customers as required. Assist in locating active and inactive tooling to support production needs. Maintain organized tool crib inventory and accurate records of tool condition and maintenance. Support production by responding to tooling issues to minimize downtime. Follow all safety procedures and maintain a clean and organized work area in accordance with 5S standards. Establish and maintain a cooperative relationship with all support functions. Perform other duties as assigned.
WHAT YOU'LL NEED TO SUCCEED
High school diploma or equivalent required. Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications. Strong attention to detail and manual dexterity for precision handwork. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision. Good communication skills and ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams. Open minded and quickly adaptable to change Ability to sit or stand for long periods of time Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. and capable of moving up to 80 lbs. with or without accommodation.
