Tool & Die Maker Job Description The Tool & Die Maker performs complex bench, machine, and finishing operations to maintain, repair, and enhance precision high-speed stamping dies and fixtures. This role focuses on improving die performance, supporting production reliability, and providing technical guidance to junior team members within a dynamic, climate-controlled manufacturing environment. Responsibilities Plan, lay out, and execute die maintenance and repair work with minimal supervision. Perform complex bench, machining, and finishing operations on precision high-speed stamping dies and fixtures. Set up and operate all Tool Room equipment and machinery safely and efficiently. Carry out advanced machine set-ups, including tool modifications when needed to achieve proper performance. Monitor die performance and inspect quality to ensure parts meet specifications and production standards. Diagnose and recognize tooling and equipment problems quickly and implement effective corrective actions. Apply design knowledge to determine how tools or machines should be adjusted, repaired, or modified when they do not function correctly. Instruct, mentor, and support other Toolmakers, Machinists, and Technicians to build skills and maintain high standards of work. Operate forklift trucks and overhead cranes as required to move dies, tooling, and materials safely. Assist in troubleshooting, maintenance, and repair of machines and related equipment. Maintain accurate documentation and records within the maintenance program, including work performed and tooling changes. Communicate effectively with team members and leadership to coordinate work, share findings, and support continuous improvement initiatives. Essential Skills Hands-on experience with tool and die making, including maintenance and repair of precision high-speed stamping dies and fixtures. Proficiency in operating and setting up Tool Room equipment and machinery. Strong troubleshooting skills with the ability to diagnose and recognize tooling and machine problems and fix them promptly. Knowledge of progressive dies and their operation, maintenance, and performance requirements. Applied design knowledge to understand how tools and machines should function and how to correct issues when they do not. Ability to perform advanced machine set-ups that may require tool modifications. Capability to work independently as a self-starter with minimal supervision. Clear and effective communication skills for collaborating with team members and mentoring junior staff. Ability to safely operate forklift trucks and overhead cranes. Additional Skills & Qualifications Completion of a J card or active participation in a recognized apprenticeship program in tool and die or a related trade. Experience mentoring or training Toolmakers, Machinists, and Technicians in a manufacturing environment. Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality in all aspects of tooling and die maintenance. Interest in long-term growth and development within a tenured, high-performing technical team. Demonstrated reliability and accountability in maintaining documentation and following maintenance program procedures. Work Environment This role is based in an extremely clean, climate-controlled manufacturing facility with a dedicated Tool Room. You will work with precision high-speed stamping dies, fixtures, and a variety of Tool Room equipment and machinery. The environment emphasizes safety, organization, and technical excellence, with access to forklift trucks and overhead cranes for material handling. Job Type & Location This is a Permanent position based out of Sturgeon Bay, WI. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $60000.00 - $65000.00/yr.
