Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Direct and oversee daily water and wastewater treatment plants. Supervise department personnel, develop work schedules, and conduct employee evaluations. Monitor pumps, motors, valves, meters, chemical feeds, filters, basins, and other treatment equipment. Collect required water and wastewater samples and perform laboratory testing and analysis. Maintain accurate laboratory records, reports, inventories, and operational data. Ensure required sampling and reporting are completed in accordance with applicable laws and regulations. Schedule chemical deliveries and sludge handling. Coordinate plant operations with contractors and communicate with vendors regarding equipment, tools, and chemicals. Train new employees on standard operating procedures, equipment, and laboratory analyses. Assist employees with training and education necessary to obtain higher-level licenses. Respond to customer complaints and assist with operational problems. Perform other related duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
High School Diploma or G.E.D. Possession of, or ability to readily obtain, an appropriate Georgia Class I Water license and Class II Wastewater license. Valid Georgia driver's license (Class C) and/or Class A CDL with a satisfactory motor vehicle record. Previous supervisory experience, particularly supervising eight or more employees, is preferred.
IDEAL CANDIDATE
The successful candidate should demonstrate: Knowledge of water and wastewater treatment systems and plant operations. Knowledge of chemical handling and application. Knowledge of laboratory procedures and water analysis. Basic chemistry and biology skills. Ability to operate laboratory and water analysis equipment. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Ability to analyze information, solve problems, establish facts, and make sound decisions. Ability to communicate professionally with employees, contractors, vendors, elected officials, and the public.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
This position involves both indoor and outdoor work and may require working in cold or inclement weather and around water, machinery, chemicals, raw sewage, dust, dirt, grease, and other environmental hazards. The position requires the ability to operate treatment and laboratory equipment and may involve physical activities including standing, walking, bending, crouching, kneeling, stooping, lifting, and carrying. Travel for training, conferences, council meetings, and other meetings may be required, including occasional meetings outside normal working hours.
