Full-Time About Oak Hill Contractors Oak Hill Contractors, LLC is a family-owned earthmoving and excavation contractor based in Southern Illinois. We specialize in large-scale dirt work, excavation, grading, and site development. Our projects include landfills, coal mines, quarries, reclamation projects, solar fields, drainage work, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers projects, and other large-scale civil earthwork. We are looking for an experienced Landfill Earthwork Supervisor to lead our dirt-moving operations on landfill projects. About the Position This is a field-based, hands-on supervisory position focused on the earthwork required to build and develop landfill cells. The ideal candidate understands large-scale dirt work and has experience working around landfill cells, including excavation, soil placement, grading, slopes, subgrade preparation, liner preparation, drainage, and cover soil. This is an earthwork position — not a landfill waste/debris operations position. You will be responsible for directing crews and equipment to keep the dirt work moving safely and efficiently, in accordance with plans and required grades. What You'll Be Doing Supervise daily earthmoving operations on landfill projects Lead and coordinate dirt-work crews and equipment operators Oversee excavation and development of landfill cells Coordinate soil excavation, hauling, placement, spreading, and compaction Direct grading of cell floors, slopes, berms, and other landfill areas Ensure subgrade is properly prepared for liner installation Coordinate earthwork around liner and related landfill systems Oversee drainage and leachate collection system earthwork Coordinate cover soil placement and grading Monitor grades, elevations, slopes, and material placement Work with GPS-controlled equipment and machine control systems Coordinate dozers, excavators, scrapers/tractor pans, haul trucks, motor graders, skid steers, and other equipment Monitor production and equipment utilization Read and understand plans, grades, elevations, and specifications Work directly with the Superintendent to plan and execute daily work Identify and resolve field problems quickly Maintain production while ensuring work is completed correctly Maintain a safe and organized job site Communicate effectively with operators, the Superintendent, inspectors, and project personnel Travel to job sites as required What We're Looking For We are specifically looking for someone with strong dirt-work and excavation experience. The ideal candidate will have experience with: Large-scale excavation Mass grading Cut and fill operations Soil placement and compaction Building slopes, berms, and subgrades Landfill cell earthwork GPS-controlled grading Heavy equipment production Coordinating multiple pieces of heavy equipment Landfill experience is strongly preferred , particularly experience working around landfill cells and liner preparation. Required Qualifications Proven experience supervising heavy civil earthwork or excavation crews Strong understanding of dirt-moving operations and production Experience directing heavy equipment operators Ability to read and understand construction plans, grades, and elevations Ability to coordinate multiple pieces of equipment to maintain production Strong field leadership and communication skills Ability to identify and solve problems in the field Willingness to work outdoors and in changing weather conditions Willingness to travel to job sites as needed Preferred Experience Landfill earthwork or cell development Landfill liner preparation Subgrade preparation Soil placement and compaction Drainage and leachate collection system earthwork Landfill cover work GPS machine control

Surface Miner certification Experience operating heavy equipment The Right Candidate We are looking for a dirt-work professional who knows how to run a production job. You should understand how to coordinate dozers, excavators, scrapers, trucks, graders, and support equipment to efficiently move material and build the job correctly. You should be comfortable being in the field, directing operators, checking grades and work, solving problems, and working closely with the Superintendent. Landfill experience is a major plus, but strong mass excavation and heavy civil dirt-work experience will also be considered. What This Job Is NOT This position is not focused on moving landfill waste, trash, or debris.
