Excavation / Underground Utilities / Site Development Position Overview G&R Excavating Inc. is seeking an experienced Water / Sewer Equipment Operator to join our underground utility crew. This position will primarily involve the installation of water and sewer service laterals, and related underground utility work. Employees will report to our shop each morning and travel to the day's jobsite from there. We are looking for someone who is comfortable operating equipment in active utility environments, understands underground construction, and can safely and accurately work from construction plans. You must be able to run a crew of 2-3 guys to accomplish the task at hand. Responsibilities Operate excavators, mini excavators, skid steers, and other construction equipment used for water and sewer installation. Excavate trenches for water mains, sanitary sewer, services, structures, and related utility work. Safely dig around existing live utilities , including gas, electric, communications, water, and sewer. Understand utility markings and potholing/exposing procedures before excavation. Read and understand plot plans, site plans, construction drawings, blueprints, utility plans, and profiles . Understand elevations, grades, slopes, pipe inverts, and basic construction staking. Assist with laying and installing water/sewer service lines. Maintain proper trench depth, grade, bedding, and backfill. Load, unload, and move equipment and materials as needed. Perform daily equipment inspections and basic maintenance. Maintain a clean and safe jobsite. Work closely with laborers and pipe layers. Follow OSHA requirements and company safety procedures. Requirements Valid driver's license required. Must be comfortable and capable of pulling a trailer with a mini excavator or similar construction equipment . Previous excavator or heavy-equipment operating experience strongly preferred. Previous water, sewer, underground utility, excavation, or site-development experience preferred. Must be able to read and understand construction plans and blueprints. Must have experience or demonstrated ability to safely excavate around existing utilities. Must understand basic grades, elevations, and measurements. Must be dependable and report to the shop on time each morning. Must be able to work outdoors in varying weather and jobsite conditions. Must be able to perform physical construction work when necessary. Must work safely and communicate effectively with the crew. Preferred Experience Ideal candidates will have experience with: Water and sewer services Grinder Pit / E-One Installation Water / Sewer Main Taps Excavator and mini excavator operation Trenching and pipe installation Working around existing/live utilities Reading utility profiles and site plans Laser levels and grade checking Loading, securing, and transporting equipment What We're Looking For We are looking for someone who takes care of equipment, understands the importance of working safely around utilities, can think ahead while excavating, and can work effectively as part of a crew. The right candidate should be able to look at the plans, understand what needs to be installed, and help complete the work safely and efficiently.

Pay:

$25.00 - $34.00 per hour Expected hours: No less than 40.0 per week
