Indiana County Municipal Services Authority (ICMSA), is seeking applicants for an immediate position as a Water Treatment Plant Operator. Qualified candidates will be eager, self-motivated team players who want to learn about the water industry or use their existing knowledge to serve our customers. In addition, they should have general electrical knowledge and be mechanically inclined. The main focus of a water treatment operator is to provide safe drinking water to the communities they serve and ensure that all DEP requirements are met. This position is an entry level position where the candidate hired will be required to obtain their water operators license and all necessary subclasses within 3 years.

ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Perform assigned treatment plant rounds; inspect, monitor, troubleshoot, perform tests and document plant processes by reading plant equipment gauges, dials, graphs, online analyzers, computer screens, meters, SCADA systems and other instrumentation.
• Operate pumps and valves utilizing a SCADA system, monitor systems for alarms, make adjustments, and provide appropriate response.
• Monitor the treatment process from the control computer screen; monitor various treatment processes including coagulant feed, rapid mix, flocculation, sedimentation, filtration, and disinfection.
• Monitor water quality by performing laboratory tests at various stages in the treatment process including tests for chlorine residual, pH, turbidity, alkalinity, iron, manganese, and other tests as necessary to maintain water quality.
• Maintain accurate logs, including water quantity, water conditions, quantity of chemicals used, machinery running time and status of equipment, pumping station operation, among others.
• Calculate, mix, and add treatment chemicals; ensure adequate chemical application according to regulations and guidelines.
• Provides appropriate response to emergencies and spills including those involving hazardous materials; wear respirator including self-contained breathing apparatus as required.
• Performs essential plant maintenance procedures, like cleaning, inspections, lubrication, minor mechanical repairs to equipment associated with the work.
• Backwash filters, usually automatic, but some plants must be washed manually.
• Perform other necessary distribution system duties; reading meters, locating and repair leaks, flush lines, respond to PA one calls, any other duties assigned by supervisor.

GENERAL REQUIREMENTS

• High school education or equivalent
• Applicant must provide clean and valid PA drivers license at time of interview and maintain throughout employment.
• Pass drug test and background check.
• Work on-call rotations with other members of the crew.
• Maintain accurate and legible records and logs pertaining to all phases of the work.
• Establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, associates, outside agencies, and the public.
• Some computer skills and some knowledge of the SCADA system are preferred.

RESIDENCY REQUIREMENTS

Applicant must have a permanent residence within 25 miles of the city of Indiana, PA.
