Under general supervision, performs skilled technical work in the operation, monitoring, and maintenance of the City's wastewater treatment facilities. Ensures compliance with applicable state and federal regulations to protect public health and the environment. Work is performed in accordance with TCEQ permits, operational manuals, and safety standards. Reports to the Wastewater Foreman.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education:
High school diploma or GED required.
Experience:
Any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Licenses/Certifications:
Valid TCEQ Class "C" Wastewater Operator License required or ability to obtain within two (2) years TCEQ Class "B" Wastewater Operator License preferred
Valid Texas Commercial Driver's License required or ability to obtain within three (3) months
Essential Job Functions:
Operates and monitors wastewater treatment equipment including pumps, motors, clarifiers, grit collectors, filters, belt press, flow meters, and chemical feed systems Performs process control testing, compliance sampling, and routine laboratory analysis Conducts preventive and corrective maintenance on equipment and facilities, including confined-space activities Maintains accurate operational, laboratory, chemical, maintenance, and regulatory records Performs housekeeping, groundskeeping, and facility security tasks Utilizes SCADA systems and computer software to monitor plant operations and document activities Maintains required certifications and complies with all safety and regulatory requirements Interacts professionally with supervisors, operators, technicians, vendors, law enforcement, and the public Operates vehicles, tools, and equipment necessary for plant operations and maintenance
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Knowledge of:
Wastewater treatment processes and operational principles TCEQ permits, regulations, and compliance requirements Occupational safety practices, including confined space procedures Equipment maintenance and troubleshooting methods
City policies and procedures.
Skills in:
Operation and monitoring of wastewater treatment equipment Recordkeeping and regulatory documentation Use of laboratory instruments and testing equipment Computer applications including Microsoft Word, Excel, and SCADA systems
Verbal and written communication
Physical Demands/Work Environment:
Work is performed primarily in an industrial wastewater treatment environment with exposure to noise, chemicals, weather conditions, and mechanical equipment. Position requires standing, walking, climbing stairs and ladders, bending, kneeling, reaching, and working in confined spaces. Employee must be able to lift up to 80 pounds from floor to knuckle height and carry up to 15 feet; occasionally lift or carry up to 100 pounds; frequently lift or carry up to 20 pounds; and constantly lift or carry up to 10 pounds. Position requires pushing and pulling forces up to 20 pounds. Use of personal protective equipment is required.
