This role works from drawings, work packages, and welding procedures to produce sound, watertight, and structurally compliant welds while maintaining strict shipyard safety requirements (hot work, fire prevention, ventilation, and confined-space practices).

Responsibilities:

Read and interpret drawings, sketches, blueprints, welding symbols, and work instructions to plan weld repairs and fabrication. Set up, adjust, and operate welding equipment and accessories for applicable processes (e.g., SMAW, FCAW, GMAW, GTAW) based on job requirements. Perform structural and component welding in all positions (flat, horizontal, vertical, and overhead) on carbon steel, stainless steel, and aluminum as assigned. Prepare and fit materials by measuring, marking, cutting, beveling, grinding, and cleaning (including removal of coatings, rust, and contaminants) to ensure weld quality. Execute ship repair tasks such as hull, deck, bulkhead, foundation, bracket, and handrail repairs; insert/renewals; crack repairs; and reinforcement work. Use hot-work tools including oxy-fuel cutting/heating, plasma cutting, arc gouging, and grinders as required. Control heat input and distortion; tack, sequence, and restrain assemblies to meet dimensional tolerances. Perform visual self-inspections and support quality checks (e.g., VT and NDT coordination as required); correct defects and complete rework per instructions. Maintain consumables and equipment; complete basic preventive maintenance, keep work areas clean, and protect adjacent equipment/structures from sparks and heat. Always follow shipyard safety rules, including hot-work permitting, fire watch coordination, ventilation, PPE, and safe material handling/rigging practices. Work effectively aboard vessels and in shop areas; coordinate with fitters, shipwrights, pipefitters, electricians, and supervisors to meet schedule and quality requirements. Accurately document work performed (e.g., weld logs, measurements, and completion notes) as required by the job package. Perform other duties as assigned. ). Strong knowledge of vessel structures, marine materials, and corrosion behavior in saltwater environments. Ability to interpret marine vessel plans, stability drawings, and structure-specific weld callouts. Experience working in dry docks, floating docks, shipyards, and pier-side repair environments. Strong leadership and communication skills for multicultural marine repair teams. Excellent organizational and documentation skills. Proficiency in MS Office and welding management systems. Strong communication skills and attention to detail. Knowledge of safety and environmental regulations. Ability to manage multiple priorities and work cross-functionally. Certificates, Licenses & Requirements Must be able to successfully pass a pre-employment criminal background check and drug screening. Pay:

$25.00 - $35.00 per hour
