$27.00-$37.00 per hour Full-Time | Monday-Friday | 1st & 2nd Shift | Overtime Available Metro East Industries, Inc. (MEI) is hiring experienced Welders / Fabricators to work exclusively on diesel-electric locomotives . This is a hands-on industrial position performing welding, fitting, fabrication, and structural repairs on locomotives and locomotive components. If you have experience in MIG welding, structural fabrication, heavy equipment, industrial maintenance, truck repair, trailer fabrication, or steel fabrication , your skills may be a strong fit. What We Offer $27-$37 per hour, based on experience and skill level Full-time, year-round employment Monday-Friday schedule 8-hour shifts 1st and 2nd shift opportunities Overtime available Health, dental, and vision insurance Life and disability insurance 401(k) with company match Vacation and holiday pay Opportunities for advancement and specialized locomotive training What You'll Do Fabricate, fit, repair, and weld locomotive components and structures Perform MIG welding using .035 wire Cut, grind, fit, tack, and finish weld steel components Repair or replace worn or damaged structural and mechanical components Read blueprints, technical drawings, measurements, and work orders Use oxy-fuel torches, plasma cutters, grinders, hand tools, and power tools Operate overhead cranes, forklifts, and other material-handling equipment Follow locomotive repair procedures, customer specifications, and MEI safety requirements What We're Looking For Welding and fabrication experience MIG welding experience preferred Ability to read a tape measure and basic blueprints Strong mechanical aptitude Experience using hand, power, and pneumatic tools Ability to work safely in a heavy industrial environment High school diploma or GED preferred Dependable, safety-minded, and able to work as part of a team Previous locomotive experience is helpful, but not required for candidates with strong welding and fabrication skills. Physical Requirements This position may require: Standing and walking for extended periods Bending, kneeling, crouching, climbing, and reaching Climbing ladders and entering/exiting locomotives Working from elevated or uneven surfaces Working in confined spaces Working around noise, sparks, fumes, dust, and heavy machinery Pushing/pulling up to 200 lbs. Carrying up to 100 lbs., with assistance or equipment when appropriate Wearing required PPE About MEI Metro East Industries has provided locomotive and railroad repair services since 1990.
