Welder Welders are responsible for using hand-welding or flame-cutting equipment to weld or join metal components. Duties Analyze drawings and blueprints to plan layout, assembly, and welding operations. Develop templates and models for projects using calculations based on blueprint information. Position, align and secure parts and assemblies prior to assembling using straight edges, combination squares, calipers, and rulers. Prepare materials to be welded following all safety guidelines and policies Weld components in flat, vertical, or overhead positions. Chip or grind off excess weld, slag or spatter using hand scrapers or power chippers. Qualifications Proficient with hand and power tools Ability to read tape measures Attention to detail Great mathematical skills with construction knowledge Must be able to travel nationally Education Requirements High school diploma or general education diploma (GED) Technical Certification
