Case Manager / Community Advocate

Job Description

GENERAL FUNCTIONS
The Client Advocate provides compassionate, trauma-informed support and advocacy services to individuals and families impacted by domestic violence, sexual violence, stalking, and other forms of interpersonal violence. The advocate empowers survivors through active listening, crisis intervention, safety planning, legal advocacy, resource coordination, and emotional support while promoting client autonomy and healing. This position also leads community outreach efforts, delivers public presentations and educational programs, develops collaborative partnerships, and supports fundraising and awareness initiatives to advance the organization's mission of promoting safety, healing, and empowerment for survivors and their families. The advocate must be able to work independently while maintaining a survivor-centered, empowering approach that promotes safety, healing, and access to resources for individuals and families.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Provide crisis intervention, emotional support, and trauma-informed advocacy to survivors of domestic violence, sexual violence, stalking, and related crimes. Offer empathetic, non-judgmental support through active listening and survivor-centered services. Assist clients in identifying immediate and long-term needs and developing individualized service plans. Conduct safety assessments and develop personalized safety plans to enhance client well-being and security. Support survivors through the healing process by providing emotional support, encouragement, and empowerment. Assist clients in navigating complex legal and criminal justice systems, including explaining legal processes and available protections. Help clients complete and file Emergency Protective Orders, Civil Protection Orders, and other victim-related legal documentation as appropriate. Provide court advocacy, including accompaniment to hearings, meetings with attorneys, law enforcement interviews, and related proceedings. Coordinate referrals and connections to community resources, including housing, counseling, medical services, financial assistance, victim compensation programs, transportation, childcare, and social service agencies. Collaborate with law enforcement, prosecutors, healthcare providers, schools, social service agencies, and community partners to ensure comprehensive support for clients. Utilize creative problem-solving strategies to address barriers to safety, stability, and recovery. Maintain accurate, timely, and confidential client records in accordance with agency policies and applicable laws. Provide information and education regarding victim rights, community resources, and available support services. Participate in outreach activities, community education programs, and awareness events as assigned. Maintain professional boundaries and uphold the confidentiality and dignity of all clients. Participate in ongoing training and professional development related to victim advocacy, trauma-informed care, and crisis response. Assist with hotline coverage, emergency response, and on-call duties as needed. Conduct community outreach activities to increase awareness of domestic violence, sexual violence, victim rights, and available support services. Represent the organization at community events, health fairs, networking meetings, and collaborative partnerships to promote agency programs and services. Assist with planning, coordinating, and participating in agency fundraising events, awareness campaigns, and donor engagement activities. Support grant-funded initiatives and program development efforts by providing outreach data, success stories, and program information as requested. Develop, manage, and maintain the organization's social media presence to increase awareness of services, programs, events, and community resources. Demonstrated ability to work independently, exercise sound judgment, and effectively prioritize responsibilities with minimal supervision.
Required Qualifications:
Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Human Services, Criminal Justice, Psychology, Counseling, or a related field preferred. Relevant experience in victim services, crisis intervention, case management, advocacy, social services, or related field preferred. Knowledge of domestic violence, sexual violence, trauma, victim rights, and community resources. Strong crisis intervention, communication, and interpersonal skills. Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds and experiences. Ability to maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries. Strong organizational, documentation, and time-management skills. Proficiency with basic computer applications and electronic case management systems. Valid driver's license and reliable transportation, required.
Preferred Skills:
Experience working with survivors of trauma, domestic violence, or sexual assault. Knowledge of protection order processes and court systems. Certification in victim advocacy or willingness to obtain certification.

This position may require office, shelter, court, hospital, community-based, and on-call work. The advocate must be able to respond effectively in crisis situations and maintain professionalism while working with individuals experiencing trauma. This description presents the Client Advocate as both a direct-service professional and a survivor advocate, emphasizing healing, safety, legal support, and access to community resources.

$42,000.00 - $44,000.00 per year
