Job Description
Medical Assistant - Patient Communications (Pulmonology) The Lung Center is a private pulmonology and sleep medicine practice seeking an experienced Medical Assistant to join our team in a patient communication-focused role . This position is ideal for a skilled MA who is confident answering patient questions, managing follow-up, and taking ownership of patient communication - not just taking messages. Position Summary This role will primarily handle inbound and outbound patient calls . You will actively resolve patient needs, coordinate care, and ensure accurate, timely follow-through. Strong clinical knowledge, attention to detail, and excellent communication skills are essential. Key Responsibilities Patient Communication & Follow-Up Answer and return patient calls promptly and professionally Address patient questions related to medications, test results, symptoms, and care plans within MA scope Take ownership of patient follow-up to ensure questions are fully resolved Accurately escalate clinical concerns to providers when appropriate Medication & Authorization Support Process medication refills and orders per provider protocols Complete prior authorizations (PAs) and communicate with pharmacies and insurance companies Track outstanding items and ensure timely completion Documentation & Charting Document all patient interactions clearly and accurately in the EMR Review charts for completeness and required follow-up Maintain organized, detailed records to support continuity of care Team Collaboration Work closely with providers, front office, and clinical staff Communicate clearly and respectfully with patients and teammates Contribute to a reliable, accountable, team-oriented environment Qualifications Required 1+ year of Medical Assistant experience in a physician's office Experience answering and returning patient calls independently Strong verbal and written communication skills Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills Proficiency with EMR systems Preferred Pulmonology, respiratory care, or specialty practice experience Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) or equivalent BLS certification or ability to obtain
Schedule & Compensation Pay:
$15-18 per hour , based on experience
