Months Position Summary:
The Assistant Director of Communications advances Loyola Academy's mission by helping develop and execute compelling, accurate, and mission-centered communications for the school's internal and external audiences. Working closely with the Director of Communications and Content Management, this position creates and manages content across digital, print and social media channels while helping tell the stories of Loyola's students, faculty, staff, programs and broader community. The Communications Office is responsible for schoolwide communications supporting Admissions, Academics, Athletics, the Principal's Office, the President's Office, Special and Philanthropic Events, and the Rambler Parent Organization. The office also communicates with current, prospective and former students and families, faculty and staff, alumni, friends and other constituents of Loyola Academy. This position is not responsible for Development-related fundraising communications, including Annual Giving, Principal and Major Gifts, Planned Giving, and Alumni Relations communications, except when providing communications support for Special and Philanthropic Events.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Writes, edits, designs and publishes content for schoolwide email communications, website pages, news stories, social media, press releases, print publications and promotional materials. Helps develop engaging stories that demonstrate Loyola Academy's Jesuit, Catholic mission and commitment to forming women and men for others. Collaborates with departments across the school to identify communications needs, gather information and develop content appropriate for specific audiences and channels. Supports communications for Admissions, Academics, Athletics, the Principal's Office, the President's Office, Special and Philanthropic Events, and the Rambler Parent Organization. Creates professional brochures, flyers, programs, invitations, signage, presentations and other materials for print and digital use. Creates, updates and maintains website content, ensuring that information is accurate, timely, accessible and optimized for desktop and mobile platforms. Assists with the planning, creation, scheduling and management of content for Loyola Academy's primary social media platforms. Helps create and distribute email communications and newsletters for internal and external audiences. Assists with editorial planning and maintains communications calendars, project schedules and deadlines. Coordinates with photographers, videographers, designers, printers and other internal and external partners as needed. Supports media relations by drafting press releases, responding to routine media inquiries and helping coordinate coverage of school news and events. Reviews and proofreads communications for accuracy, grammar, style, tone and consistency. Maintains Loyola Academy's brand standards and helps ensure consistent use of the school's visual identity, voice and messaging. Monitors communication performance and uses website, email and social media analytics to help evaluate and improve content. Assists with urgent, sensitive and time-critical communications under the direction of the Director of Communications and Content Management and school leadership. Provides communications support at select school events, including occasional evening and weekend assignments. Performs other duties consistent with the responsibilities of the position. The position requires occasional evening and weekend work to support school events, urgent communications and other institutional needs.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Excellent writing, editing and proofreading skills, with exceptional attention to accuracy, grammar, style, story structure and tone. Demonstrated ability to develop engaging stories using words, photography, graphics, audio and video. Ability to adapt content for different audiences, platforms and communications objectives. Strong visual judgment and experience creating polished digital and print materials. Excellent organizational and project-management skills, including the ability to manage multiple assignments, priorities and deadlines. Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with students, families, faculty, staff, administrators and external partners. Ability to work independently, exercise sound judgment and contribute consistently to a collaborative team environment. Ability to handle sensitive or confidential information with discretion. Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite, particularly Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign and Acrobat. Proficiency with Microsoft 365 and Google Workspace. Understanding of digital accessibility, email best practices and communications analytics. Willingness and ability to support the Jesuit, Catholic mission and values of Loyola Academy. Experience with one or more of the following is preferred but not required: Canva Asana or another project-management platform Google Analytics Blackbaud K-12 or a comparable school information system Website content-management systems HTML and CSS Email marketing and distribution platforms Social media management and analytics tools Photography, video production or basic video editing Communications experience in a school, nonprofit or mission-driven organization
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in communications, journalism, marketing, public relations, English, graphic design or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant professional experience. Three or more years of relevant communications, marketing, editorial, design or content-development experience preferred. Experience working within a Jesuit, Catholic or other mission-driven institution is preferred.
Compensation:
The salary range for this position is $75,000 - $82,500.
