JOB SUMMARY
The Communications Associate will report to the Associate Executive Director for External Relations and assist in all areas of external communications and marketing, including website maintenance, social media strategy, content creation, and implementation. The Communications Associate will be responsible for creating materials such as one-pagers and the annual appeal brochure and will help develop the annual report. They will also assist with event planning, donor database management, and creating donor acknowledgments. The role will involve periodic travel to Riis program sites to gather content, photograph and document events and activities, and develop material for use across Riis's various outreach channels. The role will also require occasional, but limited, evening and Saturday hours throughout the year for special events. The successful candidate will be a strategic thinker with excellent written and verbal communication skills who can multitask, work independently, manage multiple priorities, and adhere to internal and external deadlines.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES COMMUNICATIONS
Manage the organization's website and social media accounts; Develop and implement an annual social media content calendar; update social media accounts with relevant content appropriate for each platform; and engage regularly with followers; Write and design a bimonthly e-newsletter; Assist with the creation and design of content for annual reports, direct mail appeals, and other communications and fundraising materials; Develop and update general brochures, fact sheets, and other collateral as needed; Assist with the implementation of year-end fundraising e-appeals; Take and edit photos and video for use across social media, print materials, and other communications
DEVELOPMENT

RESPONSIBILITIES, 10-15
% OF TIME) Update and manage the DonorPerfect database; Track gifts and prepare donor acknowledgment letters; Assist with planning and executing fundraising and stewardship events.
STATEMENT OF SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES
Bachelor's degree, with at least one year of experience in communications, marketing, fundraising, persuasive/donor writing, or a related field; experience in a nonprofit setting a plus; Strong written and verbal communication skills, including excellent writing and editing skills; Proficiency in graphic design, including Canva and Adobe InDesign, or similar tools; Experience with content creation, social media management, and social media platforms, including Facebook, X, Instagram, LinkedIn, and Bluesky; Basic photography, photo editing, and video editing skills; Ability to work independently and as a member of the development team; Strong attention to detail; Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
