Part-Time Director of Marketing Description:
Help people discover Sanctuary - and keep them coming back... A great night of music. A child's first creative workshop. A gallery opening that brings neighbors together. A room full of people who arrived as strangers and left feeling connected. At Sanctuary Cultural Arts Center, these experiences are at the heart of what we do. We're looking for a Director of Marketing who can tell that story, reach new audiences, and turn interest into attendance, membership, and lasting support. Sanctuary is a growing nonprofit cultural destination in downtown Maynard, offering live music, arts programming, family events, and community celebrations. With the opening of The Vestry, our new community and exhibition space, we're expanding the ways people can experience and participate in Sanctuary. This is a hands-on leadership role for someone who combines creative instincts with strong organization and a clear understanding of what makes people take action. The Opportunity You will lead Sanctuary's marketing strategy, brand development, and day-to-day execution, with support from a staff member focused on on-the-ground marketing. This role combines creative ownership with the opportunity to supervise and mentor a colleague, building a coordinated approach to promoting Sanctuary's programs, spaces, and mission. Working closely with the Executive Director, talent buyers, event staff, artists, and community partners, you will grow audiences and strengthen Sanctuary's role as a regional gathering place. Your work will support ticketed Main Hall performances, free Barside programming, The Vestry, private events, memberships, and fundraising initiatives. Marketing strategy and campaign planning Build an integrated marketing calendar that connects event promotion, community programming, memberships, fundraising, private event sales, and broader brand messaging. Develop campaigns with clear audiences, messages, budgets, deadlines, and measurable goals. Balance immediate ticket sales with the longer-term work of telling Sanctuary's story, building awareness, and strengthening loyalty and community participation. Event promotion and artist collaboration Manage promotional timelines from event announcement through post-event follow-up. Coordinate with artists and their representatives on promotional assets, shared posts, email outreach, and audience development. Establish clear marketing expectations and follow through so every event receives consistent, timely promotion. Collaborate with the Barside Talent Manager to help free performances attract audiences and introduce emerging artists to Sanctuary's community. Content brand and storytelling Develop and refine a compelling brand messaging strategy and associated visual and written identity that reflect Sanctuary's mission, personality, and role in the community. Oversee engaging content for social media, email, the website, event listings, print materials, and paid advertising. Create or coordinate compelling graphics, photography, short-form video, artist features, and stories about Sanctuary's impact. Maintain consistent branding while giving individual events a distinct personality. Capture the energy of Sanctuary and give people a reason to attend, return, and bring a friend. Team leadership and coordination Supervise and mentor a staff member who supports on-the-ground marketing execution, providing clear priorities, guidance, and constructive feedback. Delegate and coordinate activities such as poster and flyer distribution, community outreach, promotional material placement, and event coverage. Establish a shared workflow with clear assignments, deadlines, and regular check-ins to keep campaigns moving. Coordinate staff support, street team members, and volunteers so their efforts align with Sanctuary's marketing calendar. Build a collaborative working relationship that encourages initiative, develops skills, and connects everyday execution to measurable results. Audience growth and community relationships Grow Sanctuary's email list, social audiences, attendance, and repeat visitation. Develop relationships with local businesses, media outlets, arts organizations, tourism partners, and community groups. Coordinate publicity, calendar listings, cross-promotions, and street team activity. Work with leadership to communicate the value of memberships, donations, sponsorships, and community partnerships. Digital marketing and performance Manage email campaigns, audience segmentation, and paid digital advertising. Keep event information accurate and make the path from discovery to purchase or RSVP easy to follow. Use OpenDate, Meta, Google Analytics, and related tools to understand what drives results. Deliver a concise weekly report showing performance, lessons learned, and recommended next steps. Manage the marketing budget and improve how Sanctuary allocates its time and advertising dollars. What success looks like Success means more people discovering Sanctuary, more well-attended events, and stronger relationships with the people who support our mission. Together with the Executive Director, you will establish practical goals for: Ticket sales, attendance, and event revenue. RSVPs and attendance at free community programs. Email subscriber growth, engagement, and ticket purchases. Advertising effectiveness and return on spending. Membership growth, renewals, and fundraising participation. Qualified wedding and private event inquiries. Repeat attendance, media coverage, and community partnerships. You'll be expected to explain what the numbers mean and recommend what we should do next.

Sound judgment about budgets, priorities, and where effort will make the greatest difference. A collaborative approach and a willingness to create, publish, troubleshoot, and follow through.
