PART-TIME RETAIL BALLOON SHOP & EVENT DECOR TEAM MEMBER

$15.00 per hour Carolina Balloon & Confetti is growing and preparing to open a new retail balloon and party shop in Reidsville. We plan to open the shop as soon as we have trained, dependable people ready to operate it and serve our customers. We are looking for a friendly, creative and hardworking person who can assist customers in our retail shop and also become part of our event-decoration team. This is an opportunity to help us build the new shop from the beginning while learning balloon decorating, retail sales, event preparation and installation.

ABOUT THE POSITION

This is a combined retail and event position. Some hours will be scheduled in our Reidsville retail shop. Other hours may involve preparing, delivering, installing or removing decorations at event locations. Retail-shop hours will generally be more predictable. Event hours will vary according to client schedules and venue-access times.

EVENT WORK IS DIFFERENT

This is not strictly a 9-to-5 position.

Some event assignments may:

Begin as early as 2:00 or 3:00 a.m. End as late as 2:00 or 3:00 a.m. Take place on Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays or holidays Require travel throughout the Triad and surrounding areas Last longer or shorter than originally estimated Applicants do not have to be available for every possible assignment, but they must clearly tell us the days and hours they can consistently work. Once an employee accepts an event assignment, we depend upon that person to be there. A wedding, graduation or corporate event cannot be delayed because an employee did not report to work.

RETAIL-SHOP RESPONSIBILITIES

Welcome customers and help them select balloon and party products Answer telephone calls and customer questions Take balloon-bouquet and Grab & Go orders Inflate and arrange balloon bouquets Prepare customer orders accurately and on time Operate the checkout and point-of-sale system Receive payments and provide receipts Keep the shop clean, attractive and organized Restock balloons, weights, ribbon and party supplies Maintain accurate order information Help customers load larger orders Photograph finished products when requested Assist with displays, samples and seasonal merchandise Help promote shop products and services Open or close the shop after completing training and earning that responsibility

EVENT AND DECORATING RESPONSIBILITIES

Prepare balloon décor and event equipment Build garlands, arches, columns and other decorations Load and unload company vehicles Deliver supplies and equipment to event locations Install balloon décor, backdrops and marquee displays Work from photographs, drawings and written instructions Assist the Event Captain and other crew members Keep tools, equipment and work areas organized Return after events to remove décor and collect equipment Clean, inspect and store equipment after events Perform shop, warehouse, delivery and event-preparation work as assigned

PAY AND ADVANCEMENT

Starting pay is $15.00 per hour. After completing a minimum 30-day introductory period and at least three successful event assignments, dependable employees may become eligible for an additional $5.00-per-hour Event Reliability Bonus on qualifying event-decoration hours. Additional opportunities may become available for Retail Shift Leaders, Event Captains, drivers and cross-trained Flex Team members. The Event Reliability Bonus is earned by arriving ready and on time, completing the assignment, following company standards and remaining until released by the Event Captain.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Applicants must be able to: Lift and carry approximately 40-50 pounds Stand, bend, reach and work for extended periods Safely use a step ladder Load and unload vehicles Work indoors or outdoors in changing weather conditions Perform detailed handwork involving balloons, ribbon, frames and event equipment Previous balloon, floral, decorating, catering, retail, customer-service, warehouse, theater, festival or event experience is helpful but not required. We are willing to train a dependable person with the right attitude.

Starting at $15.00 per hour, with eligibility for an additional $5.00-per-hour Event Reliability Bonus on qualifying event-decoration hours after the introductory period.

Expected Hours:

Variable according to retail scheduling and event bookings. Hours are not guaranteed unless a separate guaranteed-hours arrangement is offered in writing.
