Job Description
An established and highly competitive dance studio in the Raleigh-Durham area is seeking an exceptional dance teacher and choreographer to join its faculty. We are looking for an experienced professional who combines outstanding technical knowledge, exceptional teaching ability, and high-level choreography experience. This position will work primarily with competitive dancers, including advanced students. Exceptional tap expertise is particularly important. The ideal candidate will also be highly versatile and capable of teaching and/or choreographing across several styles, including jazz, contemporary, lyrical, musical theatre, and related disciplines. This is an opportunity for an accomplished professional interested in developing serious young dancers and creating high-level competitive work. Ideal Candidate We are particularly interested in candidates with backgrounds such as: Professional performance experience with the Broadway productions, national tours, major commercial productions, professional dance companies, or equivalent Faculty or teaching experience with respected institutions such as Steps on Broadway, Broadway Dance Center, or comparable professional training organizations Faculty, judging, teaching, or choreography experience with major dance conventions and competitions such as
NYCDA, NUVO, 24
Seven, JUMP, RADIX, or comparable organizations Extensive experience teaching advanced competitive and/or pre-professional youth dancers A demonstrated record of creating outstanding competitive choreography Strong ability to teach additional multiple disciplines, including jazz, tap, and contemporary Professional performance and/or commercial dance experience Strong technical foundation and exceptional attention to detail Candidates do not need to possess every credential listed above. We are ultimately looking for an exceptional educator and choreographer with professional-caliber experience and a proven ability to develop advanced dancers. Responsibilities Teach advanced and competitive dance classes Provide high-level technical training Teach across multiple styles based on experience and program needs Choreograph competitive group pieces, solos, duets, and/or trios Develop dancers' technique, musicality, performance quality, versatility, and artistry Prepare dancers for regional and national competitions, conventions, and performance opportunities Collaborate with artistic leadership and other faculty members Maintain a positive, disciplined, professional, and development-focused classroom environment Qualifications Significant professional teaching, choreography, and/or performance experience Exceptional proficiency in tap Advanced proficiency in multiple dance styles Experience working with competitive or pre-professional youth dancers Strong choreography portfolio Excellent communication and classroom-management skills Professionalism and reliability are essential Compensation $50-$75 per hour, commensurate with experience and credentials. Compensation above the stated range may be available for an exceptional candidate with significant professional performance, choreography, convention, judging, or nationally recognized teaching credentials. In addition to compensation for regularly scheduled group classes, this position offers significant additional earning opportunities through private lessons, choreography, competition pieces, master classes, intensives, and other special projects. Our competitive dancers regularly seek individualized technical training, competition preparation, and private coaching from our faculty. Compensation for private lessons, choreography, and other special projects is separate from and in addition to the hourly compensation for group classes , providing an accomplished and in-demand teacher with the opportunity to earn meaningfully more than the advertised hourly teaching rate. Relocation assistance may be available for an exceptional candidate.
