About Us Lawton Academy provides performing-arts training and production opportunities for children and teenagers. Learn more at lawtonacademy.org Position Summary We are seeking an experienced, creative Dance Choreographer for our youth musical-theater productions. This person will create and teach dynamic, age-appropriate choreography that supports the storytelling, music, and overall vision of each production. The right candidate is not only an excellent choreographer, but also an exceptional teacher and mentor—someone who can make students feel encouraged, capable, and excited to perform. Responsibilities Create original, engaging choreography for youth musical-theater productions. Teach choreography to children and teenagers with a range of dance experience. Adapt choreography for different ages, abilities, cast sizes, and rehearsal schedules. Work closely with the director, music director, and production team. Lead rehearsals with energy, patience, structure, and professionalism. Help students develop musicality, performance quality, stage presence, and confidence. Attend scheduled rehearsals, technical rehearsals, dress rehearsals, and performances as needed. Maintain a positive, inclusive, and supportive rehearsal environment. Requirements At least 3 years of experience choreographing youth musical-theater productions. Strong knowledge of musical-theater dance and relevant dance styles. Demonstrated ability to teach and connect with children and teenagers. A genuine passion for helping young performers grow, succeed, and enjoy the creative process. Strong communication, organization, and collaboration skills. Ability to balance high artistic standards with a patient, encouraging approach. Dependability and flexibility within a collaborative production environment. Scope of Role Rehearsals are generally 3 hrs and take place during after school hours on 1-2 weekdays each week.
