This is a part-time position (up to 20 hours per week) with a schedule that follows the worship and rehearsal calendar.
Key Responsibilities:
Direct and accompany a variety of ensembles, including an adult men's vocal choir, children's choir, and handbell choir Serve as primary Organist/Pianist for Sunday worship and special services (e.g., Maundy Thursday, Christmas Eve) Coordinate all facets of the church's music ministry, ensuring smooth operations and well-prepared participants Recruit, mentor, and supervise music volunteers and staff for each ensemble Collaborate with the Pastor to plan worship services and integrate music from diverse ensembles into the life of the church Select music that is appropriate for the skill level and style of each group, fostering both musical growth and joyful worship Oversee scheduling, rehearsal planning, and preparation for worship and special events Maintain church musical instruments, resources, and equipment
Qualifications:
Experience in choir direction, accompaniment, and conducting, including work with handbells and children's music Strong organizational, leadership, and communication skills Ability to work collaboratively with staff, volunteers, and congregation members Commitment to the mission and ministry of South Gate UMC Bachelor's degree in Music Education or related field preferred
Schedule & Compensation:
Part-time:
up to 20 hours/week, primarily Sundays and scheduled rehearsals (mid-August-May)
Annual Salary:
