Church choir director First United Methodist Church of Canandaigua Canandaigua, NY Job Details Part-time From $21.75 an hour 23 hours ago Qualifications Music Team development Bachelor's degree Recruiting Media relations Full Job Description Job Summary The Director of Music's primary responsibility will be to select music for and direct the Wesley Choir from September through June and coordinate with the 11:00 am Praise Team. The director's secondary responsibility will be to select and coordinate special music throughout the calendar year Responsibilities 1. The Wesley Choir will participate in the 11:00 am worship service every Sunday from the second Sunday in September through the last Sunday in June. 2. The Wesley Choir will be expected to participate in other selected events throughout the year, such as Chr istmas Eve, additional Holy Week services, and other special events. 3. The director will recruit new choir members and for special music groups who will perform during the year. The director will interface with eh Praise Team Coordinator of the Contemporary Service to insure they are both aware of the scope of both ministry areas. 4. The Director will encourage church members to participate in musical worship. 5. In the event of illness or other emergency, the Directore will contact Staff Partner who is responsible for finding a replacement to direct the choir. 6. The Director is responsible for the selection of music and supervision of the choir library. 7. The Director will communicate with the office manager and provide information necessary for weekly printed material. 8. The Director will provide necessary information to the media person each week as necessary for the weekly service. 9. The Director is responsible for leading s][weekly choir rehearsals. 10. The Director will work Collegially with other FUMC musical groups (Bell Choir, Ensambles, Soloists, Praise Band Coordinator) and the Organist. 11. The Director will meet regularly with the pastor for planning and is encouraged to attend scheduled staff meetings, if available. Read sheet music fluently and adapt arrangements as needed for different choir configurations or service themes. Foster a positive team environment by managing music teams effectively, encouraging participation, and nurturing spiritual growth among choir members. Requirements Preferably a 4 year degree in music or related field and experience directing a choir.
