Music Director/Teaching Artist Located in the Renton Highlands, we are seeking someone who is passionate about guiding and teaching young performers through the process of putting up a musical production and can collaborate well with a creative team.
Our Ideal Candidate:
Embraces the passion we have at KPA for leading and instructing young artists. Is excited to be working with performers ages 6 - 18. Can commit to the full contract length (academic year). Would like to find a theatre home and become part of our established theatre family long-term. Is willing and able to take the initiative with curriculum as well as developing new, creative program ideas. Has excellent communication skills. Has excellent collaborative skills.
Requirements:
Must have completed at least two years of college towards a degree in a performing arts field, or equivalent. Must have experience working with elementary age & middle school children. Must be professional, reliable, enthusiastic, and collaborative, and be able to provide solid references. Must be available beginning no later than early September 2026 for production prep and auditions. Must have reliable transportation. Background checks will be conducted before hiring is finalized.
Preferred :
Experience in both music and theatre instruction. Availability to run future classes & camp sessions. Role Breakdown:
Production/Travel Team Music Director Music Direct our Fall production of Beetlejuice JR, Fall/Winter production of Annie KIDS, & Spring productions (titles TBD). Music Direct for our award-winning travel team, the Kettleworks Traveling Players (KTP) for the majority of the school year. To be discussed - As MD for KTP you may join us on our trip to the Junior Theater Festival West '27 (JTF West '27) February 4-8, 2027. You must be available to travel with us for these dates.
SCHEDULE
- This is a part-time position. Mainstage Production (Beetlejuice JR.) rehearsals run Wednesdays 4:45-6:45, Thursdays 4:45-6:45, and Saturdays 1:00-6:00. Spotlight Kids Production (Annie KIDS) rehearsals run Mondays 4:45-6:15. You would not be called for these full times every week and we can work with your availability within this framework. Our MD would only need to be available for the full schedule starting roughly 10 days before Tech Week. You would be expected to be present every evening from roughly 5:00 on during production Tech Week. PAY - $1600-$2300 Stipend per Mainstage Production/$350-600 Stipend per Spotlight Kids Production. If invited to MD for travel team: $375-575 Stipend for travel team rehearsals + partial travel expenses for JTF West '27. Stipend will be determined by final rehearsal schedule. Possible additional opportunities: Instruct private/semi-private lessons in acting and/or voice. Develop & run summer camp programs.
