About St. John's United Methodist Church St. John's United Methodist Church is a long-established congregation in Edwardsville, Illinois, with deep roots in the community and a strong commitment to worship, service, and discipleship. Scope The Employee shall adhere to the scope of services set forth herein and shall coordinate with the Directing Pastor for providing the organ and piano music at the traditional service at St. John's United Methodist Church.

Employee shall be sympathetic to, and uphold the mission of, St. John's UMC, the Illinois Great Rivers Conference, the United Methodist denomination as a whole and the Christian Faith. Duties and Responsibilities Preparation of prelude, offertory, postlude and hymns for Sunday morning worship attempting to fit the "theme" of worship, including spending the necessary practice and preparation time to ensure excellence. Exhibit high musical standards, initiative and creativity, along with a personal dedication to the goals of the music ministry. The organist is expected to support the Director of Choral Music in the planning and preparation of a variety of music presentations and styles. Substitute coverage for time off should be facilitated in collaboration with the Directing Pastor. Participation in Weddings and Funerals. Payment is typically arranged privately and averages $100. Preparation for special evening services, such as Ash Wednesday, Good Friday, Christmas Eve, etc. Scheduling rehearsals with anyone providing special music for a service. Accompaniment for choir cantatas, special music and presentations during the Christmas and Easter Seasons. Scheduling piano tuning and organ maintenance when necessary. Fee for this will be paid by St. John's UMC. Work Schedule Attend Traditional Worship Service and serve as the organist 52 Sundays per year and other special services as needed. The Directing Pastor must be notified of any substitute within 7 days prior to foreseen/planned absence. Attend Wednesday evening choir rehearsal, accompanying the choir as it prepares for the anthems on Sunday morning. Participate in regular collaborative communication with Directing Pastor and Director of Choral Music to facilitate planning. Working Relationship This position is under the general supervision of the Directing Pastor, in conjunction with the Staff Parish Relations Committee (SPRC). Evaluation of Employee's Performance will be prepared annually by the Directing Pastor in collaboration with SPRC. Annual compensation increase will be determined by performance as well as church budget considerations.
Skills and Qualifications Education:
Music or Music Education Degree or equivalent performance experience preferred. Considerable experience and ability are requirements of this musician, who provides a high level of support for the overall music ministry of the church. Opportunities for continuing education or training as deemed necessary by the SPRC.
