Drumline Instructor / Technician (Specialized Support) Calhoun Drum Academy is seeking a dedicated, energetic, and empathetic Drumline Instructor/Technician for the upcoming Marching Band Season (Sept, Oct, Nov). You will work directly under the Academy Owner/Director and alongside the Assistant Instructor to teach, support, and mentor students with disabilities. This role combines music education, student mentorship, social media assistance and logistical. support to ensure all members can safely and successfully participate in rehearsals and performances.
Key Responsibilities:
Instruction & Student Support Co-Teach Rehearsals :
Assist the Director and Assistant Instructor in leading sectional and full Drumline rehearsals.
Adaptive Teaching :
Break down rhythms, visual movements, and music fundamentals to match diverse learning needs and abilities. 1-on-1
Mentorship :
Provide targeted, patient coaching to students requiring extra attention or modified techniques.
Additional Support :
Foster an inclusive, encouraging, and safe environment where all students feel valued.
Performance, Equipment & Logistics Support Equipment Management :
Assiist with the physical loading and unloading of the equipment truck and storage closet before and after all rehearsals and performances.
Field Setup & Strike :
Assist with the setup of instruments, stands, and props during rehearsals and on the field or stage during performances. Ensure efficient cleanup post-rehearsal and performances.
Performance/Rehearsal Conducting :
Help conduct or visually cue drumline members during live field shows, rehearsals and stage performances.
In-Performance/Rehearsal Support :
Stand by to assist students during rehearsals and performances with instrument adjustments, music transitions, or emotional support. Instrument Maintence Tune all marching percussion instruments (snares, tenors, bass drums) regularly. Replace worn or broken drumheads as needed. Tape drumsticks and mallets to maintain durability and appearance. Social Media Assistance Assist the Academy Owner with filming high-quality video footage during rehearsals and events, creating engaging social media content.
Posistion Requirements Musical Expertise:
Strong background in marching percussion (snare, tenors, bass cymbals) or Drumset. Experience with
Disabilities:
Prior experience working with individuals with physical, intellectual, or developmental disabilities is highly preferred but not required.
Physical Stamina:
Ability to lift heavy percussion equipment (up to 50 lbs), march, and stand for extended periods.
Schedule Flexibility:
Availability for evening rehearsals and weekend performances throughout the entire Marching Band Season.
Soft Skills:
Outstanding patience, clear communication, emotional intelligence, and a collaborative team mindset. Proficiency in tuning marching percussion and wrapping sticks/mallets .
