The Public Health Department promotes the health of the entire community through varied programs ranging from control of communicable diseases and coordination of the response to health emergencies to individual case management to primary prevention of disease and wellness promotion. Examples of Duties The Public Health Emergency Preparedness and Response Coordinator serves as the Medical Health Operational Area Coordinator (MHOAC) or MHOAC Designee; serves as the 24/7/365 single point of contact for the MHOAC Program, is responsible for monitoring, ensuring and procuring medical and health resources during a local emergency or disaster and for working with the Regional Disaster Medical Health Coordinator to submit and respond to medical and health requests for resources outside the Operational Area. This position plans, coordinates, and implements public health emergency preparedness activities including pre-emergency planning, emergency response activities, and post-emergency functions. This includes ongoing planning and participation in local, regional, state, and national forums to strengthen the public health infrastructure in Nevada County. This position is fully qualified to independently perform the full range of duties. Under general direction of the Director Public Health, this individual provides expertise in public health preparedness to respond to incidents of bio-terrorism, infectious disease outbreaks and other public health threats and emergencies. The incumbent assesses public health emergency preparedness needs and works in partnership with other employees, departments and divisions, agencies, and the public in delivering effective, integrated and innovative services. Additionally, the incumbent will take a leadership role in the development, implementation, and service delivery coordination of Nevada County's Public Health Emergency Prevention and Response Plans as well as other emergency response documents. Knowledge and Skills Required The ideal candidate will: Have two years of experience in planning and executing emergency preparedness or response activities. Bring value to a strong, engaged team whose mission is to prevent disease, promote and support optimal health and wellness, and protect the community against disasters. Be committed to and participate in the department's ongoing work towards diversity, inclusion, and equity. Possess excellent written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to adapt their communication style to meet the needs of both internal and external customers. Work independently, able to prioritize work and remain flexible when priorities shift. Be a detail oriented, self-starter who can apply critical thinking skills to daily work and special projects. Provide excellent customer service utilizing emotional intelligence to assist customers at both ends of the life cycle. Be software/system intuitive. Possess strong Microsoft Office suite skills, especially Excel and Word. Education and Experience Required Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in emergency management, public health, health sciences, public administration, environmental health, or a related field AND two years of experience in planning and executing emergency preparedness or response activities. Retirement The County is a member of the CalPERS retirement system and also provides the opportunity for voluntary contributions to a 457 deferred compensation account through Nationwide by way of pre-tax and Roth payroll deductions.
