Central Oregon Locavore is looking for a Lead Cashier to join our Marketplace team. This is a hands-on, frontline leadership position for someone who is warm with customers, confident under pressure, great with details, and comfortable helping guide and train others. You'll still be working directly with customers and running the register, but you'll also be the person other cashiers and volunteers can turn to when they have a question, need help with a transaction, or need guidance keeping things moving. And because this is Locavore, the work has a bigger purpose: helping build a stronger local food system and connecting our community with the farmers, ranchers, makers, and producers who feed Central Oregon. What You'll Do As Lead Cashier, you'll help create a checkout experience that is fast, friendly, accurate, and welcoming.

You will:

Provide excellent customer service and help keep checkout lines moving smoothly. Serve as the first point of support when cashiers or volunteers have questions. Accurately process transactions including cash, credit cards, SNAP, Double Up Food Bucks (DUFB), gift cards, store credits, and discounts. Help resolve customer concerns and know when to bring in the Manager on Duty. Train new cashiers and volunteers on our POS system, transaction procedures, cash handling, and customer service expectations. Help roll out new procedures and make sure the team understands changes before they go live. Provide respectful, real-time coaching to help cashiers improve accuracy, speed, and customer interactions. Help coordinate register coverage and breaks with the Manager on Duty. Keep the checkout and front-of-house areas clean, organized, stocked, and ready for customers. Help maintain a marketplace that feels full, fresh, welcoming, and cared for. Talk with customers about Locavore's mission, memberships, events, and featured local products. Notice problems, recurring customer requests, or low-stock items and communicate them to the appropriate team member. This position trains at our Eastside location at 1841 NE 3rd Street and will transition over to the Westside store when it opens this fall. You'll Be Great at This If You… Have a valid OR state driver's license. Genuinely enjoy working with people. Stay calm and friendly when things get busy. Are highly accurate and trustworthy when handling money. Notice what needs to be done without always needing to be asked. Are comfortable teaching and coaching others. Can give direction respectfully without needing to be "the boss." Communicate clearly and follow established communication channels. Are dependable and follow through on what you say you'll do. Can balance several priorities while keeping the customer experience front and center. Want to be part of a collaborative, mission-driven team.
