Whatcom Democrats Connecting Whatcom Campaign Job Description:
Field Organizer Start Date:
As near as possible to Sept. 14th, 2026.
End Date:
November 3rd, 2026. There is the potential of an optional one-week extension at the same pay rate depending on electoral outcomes.
Hours:
Part-time position. 20 hours per week.
Location:
Whatcom County. Our campaign is committed to ensuring a dynamic and productive learning experience for our staff. While there are certain components of the Field Organizer job that are essential, like organizing volunteers, we want staff to take an active role in shaping the experience. We are open to discussing ways that we can incorporate staffs'' specific interests into their responsibilities and workstreams.
Field:
Our Campaign's Top Priority The field campaign will consist of doorbelling, digital outreach, phone canvassing, relational organizing, and community organizing culminating in intensive Get Out the Vote efforts. Essential duties for the Field Organizer position include: Assist in developing and implementing organizing strategy and voter contact plans. Ensure accurate and reliable entry of data throughout the campaign. Assisting in voter registration. Talking to voters through digital outreach, over the phone, and through texting, and especially through door-to-door canvassing. Daily and weekly reporting of voter/volunteer outreach totals will be expected. Recruiting, training, and scheduling volunteers or paid staff. It is crucial that volunteers get training that provides them all the tools they need to be effective and that leaves them feeling empowered and valued. Managing information through our database system (Votebuilder). All data gathered during and after the campaign will become the sole property of the Whatcom County Democrats & the Washington State Democrats. Supporting Interns and volunteers through training, advice, and occasional management activities. While the field campaign is the top priority, the FO may help with some events as needed. These events will be remote or use other safety precautions.
Qualifications/Requirements:
Afternoons, evenings, and weekends are the most important voter contact times and evening and weekend work will be required. Previous experience with organizing and/or outreach is preferred. Should have an understanding of local issues Whatcom County is facing now and in the future. Will have strong communication skills, must be personable, and work well both alone and as part of a team. Must be professional at all times. Discretion is a must; the FO will have access to highly sensitive information and must guard that carefully. The FO will not speak to the media unless given explicit permission. The FO will assume that anything written online (including email) may be forwarded (even accidentally) and seen by the media and the opponents; therefore, the FO will use extreme care in all communications. The FO is one of the public faces of the campaign and will conduct themselves as such, both on and off the clock. The FO must use message discipline when speaking about the candidates and the campaigns. The FO will be required to comply with the Whatcom Democrats Code of Conduct and .
