About Cripple Creek Backcountry Cripple Creek Backcountry is a four-season specialty outfitter with shops in Carbondale, Aspen Highlands, Denver, Avon/Edwards, Seattle, and Silverthorne. We specialize in uphill skiing and splitboarding in the winter and everything cycling in the summer. We're one of the fastest-growing companies in the fastest-growing segment of the winter sports world. The Role This is a hybrid floor-and-bench position. You'll spend your day moving between helping customers choose the right setup and working in the back mounting bindings, tuning skis, and building bikes. Both halves matter equally, and we're specific about that: the person we hire has to be able to close a sale, not just talk gear. Retail experience isn't required. Sales instinct is. If you light up explaining why a particular boot-binding combination is right for someone and can guide them to a confident buying decision, we can teach you the rest. What You'll Do On the floor Guide customers to the right skis, splitboards, boots, bindings, bikes, and apparel for their goals and ability Own the sale start to finish — read what someone actually needs, make a clear recommendation, and close Hit and exceed individual and store sales goals Handle online orders, phone and email inquiries, and post-purchase follow-up Stay current on backcountry gear technology, avalanche safety, and industry trends On the bench Mount, adjust, and test AT and splitboard bindings to manufacturer spec Tune and repair skis and snowboards: edges, bases, waxing Boot work including punching, shell modification, and liner fitting Build, service, and repair bikes during the summer season Prep and maintain our demo fleet Explain repairs and maintenance to customers in plain language Both Receiving, stocking, merchandising, and inventory accuracy Support community events and education clinics What We're Looking For Comfortable selling. You can ask good questions, make a recommendation, and ask for the sale without it feeling like a pitch Mechanically inclined and detail-oriented — you'd rather double-check a DIN setting than assume A self-starter who solves problems instead of passing them along Real enthusiasm for human-powered adventure: touring, splitboarding, riding, running An intense desire to learn and a genuine affinity for gear nerdery Reliable through the winter season, including weekends and holidays Able to lift and move gear and stand for extended shifts Prior retail, mounting bench, boot fitting, ski tuning, or bike mechanic experience is a plus, not a requirement What We Offer $20-$27/hour depending on experience On-the-job training toward a long-term industry career Flexible scheduling Unlimited access to our large demo fleet Deep discounts on gear we sell, plus pro deals through most brands we carry A team that shows up for its community and actually uses the products it sells We seek to foster an environment that reflects the diversity of our community.
