Job Description

Position Overview LN Engineering is seeking an experienced CNC Machine Shop Lead to help oversee the day-to-day operation of our machine shop. This is a hands-on working foreman position for someone who is equally comfortable setting up CNC equipment, troubleshooting machining issues, inspecting parts, and leading and supporting other machinists. The Machine Shop Lead will coordinate daily production activities, perform and verify CNC setups, assist operators with technical issues, and help ensure work is completed safely, accurately, and on schedule. Quality is our number one priority. LN Engineering operates under an
ISO 9001
quality management system, and the Machine Shop Lead will have the authority to stop production when a quality concern is identified. Our shop primarily utilizes Haas CNC lathes and vertical machining centers . We currently use Mastercam and are transitioning toward Autodesk Fusion 360 for CAM and manufacturing process control. This position reports to the Machine Shop Supervisor. Schedule & Future Growth Our current production schedule is four 10-hour days, Monday through Thursday, from 7:30 AM to 6:00 PM , providing a consistent 40-hour workweek with three-day weekends. As LN Engineering grows, we plan to add a staggered second production shift operating Wednesday through Saturday . The person hired for this position should be interested in eventually transitioning into the working foreman/lead role for that shift. When that occurs, the position will include increased supervisory responsibility, including directing employees, training new machinists, managing workflow, and overseeing day-to-day shop operations. Additional compensation would accompany the increased responsibilities. There is currently no set date for the second-shift transition. Key Responsibilities Lead daily machine shop floor operations and coordinate workflow based on production priorities. Assign and direct work for machinists and machine operators. Perform and verify complex CNC setups on Haas lathes and vertical machining centers. Verify tooling, workholding, offsets, and setup requirements prior to production. Perform first-article and in-process inspections to ensure parts meet drawing and quality requirements. Read and interpret engineering drawings, tolerances, and GD&T. Use micrometers, calipers, gauges, and other precision inspection equipment. Train, mentor, and support machinists and operators. Troubleshoot machining, tooling, setup, and common Haas control issues. Make basic G-code edits or adjustments at the machine when necessary. Help identify opportunities to improve setups, tooling, workholding, machine utilization, quality, and manufacturing efficiency. Encourage feedback from machinists regarding potential process improvements. Monitor tooling, inserts, fixtures, and consumables to prevent avoidable production delays. Coordinate routine preventive maintenance and help maintain equipment in proper operating condition. Maintain clear communication and effective handoffs with the supervisor regarding production status, machine issues, quality concerns, tooling needs, and work in progress. Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment. Quality & ISO 9001 Responsibilities Follow and help enforce LN Engineering's
ISO 9001
quality procedures. Ensure operators follow approved drawings, work instructions, setup requirements, inspection requirements, and controlled manufacturing processes. Verify first-article and in-process inspection requirements are completed and documented. Identify, document, and segregate nonconforming material. Initiate and document nonconformance reports (NCs) when required. Document identified problems and associated corrective actions or fixes. Escalate quality or process issues to the supervisor when appropriate. Maintain required part, material, and process traceability. Stop production when a quality requirement is not being met or when there is uncertainty regarding product conformity. Never allow production schedules or output targets to take priority over product quality. Minimum Qualifications Approximately 5+ years of hands-on CNC machining experience , including significant CNC setup experience. Previous experience as a lead machinist, senior setup machinist, shop lead, working foreman, or similar position preferred. Strong hands-on experience setting up and operating CNC lathes and vertical machining centers. Ability to independently perform and troubleshoot CNC setups. Strong blueprint-reading and GD&T skills. Proficiency with precision measuring and inspection equipment. Ability to diagnose machining problems and make appropriate tooling, offset, setup, or basic G-code corrections. Ability to lead, train, and work effectively with machinists of varying experience levels. Strong attention to quality, safety, organization, and production efficiency. Dependable and comfortable taking responsibility for shop-floor decisions. Preferred Qualifications Strong experience with Haas CNC equipment . Experience with Haas Next Generation Controls (NGC) . Experience with Haas Wireless Intuitive Probing Systems (WIPS) . Familiarity with Autodesk Fusion 360 , particularly its Manufacturing/CAM environment. Familiarity with Mastercam . Experience working within an ISO 9001 or similar quality management system . Formal machining/manufacturing apprenticeship, NIMS certification, technical-school training, or equivalent experience. Previous responsibility for first-article inspection. Previous experience leading or supervising a small manufacturing team. Automotive or engine-component machining experience is welcome but not required . An interest in automotive and mechanical applications is a plus. Physical Requirements Ability to work in a machine shop/manufacturing environment. Ability to stand and move throughout the shop for extended periods. Ability to bend, reach, and work around CNC equipment. Ability to regularly lift and handle up to 50 pounds independently . Heavier or awkward items should be handled using a team lift or appropriate mechanical assistance. Ability to safely use standard shop and inspection equipment. Compensation $34.00-$37.00 per hour , depending on experience and qualifications. This is an hourly, full-time position based on a 40-hour workweek. Overtime is generally not required and should not be expected as a regular part of compensation. Future transition into independent leadership of the planned Wednesday-Saturday shift would include additional management responsibilities and a corresponding compensation review.
