Tracy Katz Purpose or role of the position: To support Spirit Store & Mailroom operations
Duties and Responsibilities:
Perform the daily operations of the Spirit Store and Mailroom by providing excellent customer service and assisting with retail, mail, shipping, inventory, and marketing functions.
Position Expectations:
This is a fast-paced, hands-on position where no two days are the same. Team members are expected to take ownership, adapt to change, and take pride in their work while contributing to a successful team. Position Summary The Spirit Store & Mailroom Associate is responsible for providing outstanding customer service while supporting the daily operations of both the Spirit Store and the University Mailroom. This position requires a motivated, dependable individual who can prioritize multiple responsibilities, exercise sound judgment, and work independently in a fast-paced environment with minimal supervision. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys variety, takes initiative, takes ownership of their work, and is committed to accuracy, organization, and exceptional customer service. Ideal candidates are motivated to grow and pursue future leadership opportunities within the department. Primary Responsibilities All Areas Provide friendly, professional, and knowledgeable customer service to students, faculty, staff, alumni, and visitors. Answer incoming phone calls and respond to customer questions accurately and professionally. Perform regular general housekeeping (cleaning, dusting, vacuuming, etc.). Mailroom Operations Receive, process, and distribute incoming and outgoing mail and packages. Accurately track packages using university software and shipping systems. Operate the department mail cart and perform the campus mail run, as assigned. Retail Operations Stock merchandise and replenish inventory. Operate the cash register to accurately process sales, payments, and returns. Maintain a welcoming and organized storefront. Fill merchandise sizes and maintain attractive product presentations. Assist with product processing (BUMP procedures). Keep storage areas organized and inventory accessible. Process, package, and ship online orders accurately and efficiently. Qualifications Excellent customer service and communication skills. Strong organizational and multitasking abilities. Careful attention to detail and accuracy. The ability to prioritize responsibilities while maintaining a high level of customer service. Critical thinking and sound decision-making skills. A positive attitude and willingness to learn. Reliability, professionalism, and punctuality. Self-motivation and the ability to recognize and complete tasks without constant direction. Must have a valid Michigan driver s license. Must be available to work at least one home football game each season (September 3, September 12, October 3 - Homecoming, October 31, or November 14) and occasional evening events as departmental needs require. Physical Requirements Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds. Ability to stand, walk, bend, reach, climb a ladder, and move merchandise throughout the workday.
