Job Description

Job Summary We are seeking an experienced and highly organized Shop Manager to oversee daily operations within our automotive and heavy equipment service facility. The ideal candidate will possess extensive mechanical knowledge, hands-on experience with a variety of machinery, and strong leadership skills to manage a team of technicians. This role involves coordinating repairs, maintenance, and customer service while ensuring safety and efficiency standards are met. The Shop Manager will play a critical role in maintaining high-quality service delivery and operational excellence. Duties Supervise and coordinate daily shop activities, including vehicle repairs, equipment maintenance, and service operations. Oversee the repair and maintenance of heavy equipment, farm machinery, industrial systems, and automotive vehicles, including diesel engines, transmissions, hydraulics, electrical systems, and air brakes. Manage inventory levels for parts, tools, and supplies necessary for repairs and maintenance tasks. Ensure all work complies with safety regulations and industry standards; enforce safety protocols among staff. Assign work orders to technicians based on skill level and workload; monitor progress to ensure timely completion. Conduct quality control inspections on completed repairs to verify proper functioning and adherence to specifications. Maintain detailed records of repairs, maintenance schedules, parts used, and service histories. Provide excellent customer service by communicating effectively with clients regarding repair status and recommendations. Train new staff members on shop procedures, safety practices, and technical skills as needed. Stay updated on industry trends, new technologies, and best practices in heavy equipment operation and automotive repair. Requirements Extensive experience in dealership settings or heavy equipment operation is highly preferred. Strong mechanical knowledge across various systems including fabrication, hydraulics, electrical systems, transmissions, suspension components, HVAC systems, tire service, welding, and general vehicle maintenance. Proven ability to operate or oversee the operation of heavy machinery such as excavators, cranes, forklifts, tractors-trailers, and other industrial equipment. Familiarity with schematics for diagnostics and repair procedures; proficiency with hand tools and power tools required for assembly and equipment repair. Knowledge of automotive electrical systems repair, vehicle systems diagnostics for trucks and cars used by drivers. Experience with welding (including soldering), heavy lifting techniques, tire servicing, alignment procedures, air brake systems, shocks & struts replacement. Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining attention to detail; excellent organizational skills required. Strong leadership qualities with the ability to motivate a team of technicians; excellent communication skills are essential. Relevant certifications or licenses related to heavy equipment operation or automotive repair are advantageous but not mandatory.
