We are looking for a Plant Nursery Store Manager who shares these same values and is ready to lead our retail team to new heights. The Opportunity As Plant Nursery Store Manager, you are a key member of our leadership team, a management role that sits between ownership/the General Manager and the front-line retail team, with full ownership of the retail department. You'll oversee everything that happens on the sales floor and behind the registers: the cashiers, the yard team, the Cashier Team Leads who support you, the Merchandising, the Inventory, and the customer experience that makes Eagle Crest a destination nursery. This is a hands-on leadership role, you'll be running a register during a rush and coaching a team member through a tough customer interaction in the same afternoon. Reports to:
Ownership What You Will Own Retail Operations & Store Standards Daily Operations
  • Oversee the efficient and accurate operation of the cashier stations, cash drawers, and VMX POS software, including training, coaching, and troubleshooting Cash Handling
  • Manage daily bank deposits, house charge account payments, and invoice review for accuracy Store Standards
  • Maintain the retail department, cashier stations, back stock, and sales floor. In clean, safe, and orderly condition Merchandising
  • Own store layout, signage, tagging, and seasonal changeovers, including the annual holiday rollout Inventory
  • Oversee receiving, pricing, stocking, and merchandising of incoming hard goods and gift orders, and lead store inventory counts
Cross-Functional Collaboration:
Partner with the Softgoods, Hardgoods, and Inventory teams to seamlessly execute merchandising, buying, and stock strategies within the retail store. Team Leadership & Development Supervision
  • Directly supervise the Cashier Team Leads, cashiers, and yard team, and serve as the department's point person when ownership or the General Manager is unavailable Scheduling
  • Build and manage cashier and yard team schedules to keep the department fully and appropriately staffed Training
  • Train and onboard retail staff on registers, phone etiquette, policies, and Eagle Crest's standards of service Coaching
  • Hold regular coaching and performance conversations with your team, partnering with the HR Manager on formal reviews and development plans Lead by Example
  • Work alongside your team on the floor, ringing up sales, loading a customer's car, or hauling back stock, whatever the day requires Customer & Community Experience Service
  • Resolve customer questions, issues, or complaints promptly and with genuine care, for both homeowner and commercial accounts Product Knowledge
  • Build deep familiarity with nursery products, fertilizers, pesticides, tools, houseplants, seeds, so you and your team can confidently advise customers Delivery & Planting
  • Oversee delivery, planting, and special request processes, utilizing customer focused forms, with additional communication with the T&S Dept. Manager Workshops & Events
  • Support workshop and class sign-ups, and help coordinate vendor partnerships and special events Business Support & Culture Sales & Promotions
  • Partner with the General Manager on sales, promotions, and seasonal strategy, and review sales reports for accuracy Policy
  • Help develop store policy, service standards, and procedures for the retail department Hiring Partnership
  • Partner with the HR Manager on recruiting, interviewing, and onboarding retail staff who align with Eagle Crest's values Values in Action
  • Champion Eagle Crest's values on the retail floor every day, setting the tone for how the department treats customers and each other Who You Are A hands-on leader who is just as comfortable running a register during a rush as coaching a teammate through a tough moment A strong communicator, equally clear and credible with the yard crew, the front register, and ownership Organized and detail-oriented, able to juggle scheduling, inventory, and customer needs without losing sight of the bigger picture A calm, steady problem-solver, especially when the store is busy and the pace picks up A coach at heart who genuinely enjoys developing people and helping them grow into leadership themselves Someone who takes pride in getting the details right; clean displays, accurate drawers, correct signage, even when no one is watching Energized by the demands and rhythms of a seasonal retail business, and comfortable navigating change Qualifications Required 3+ years of retail management or supervisory experience in a fast-paced, customer-facing environment Experience with POS systems, cash handling, and daily reconciliation or bank deposit procedures Demonstrated ability to train, schedule, coach, and supervise a team Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities at once Comfortable with the physical demands of nursery retail work, including lifting, standing, and working outdoors Preferred Experience in a nursery, garden center, agriculture, or seasonal retail environment Familiarity with VMX or similar point-of-sale software Experience leading merchandising resets or seasonal store changeovers Bilingual in English and Spanish Our Values, What We Hire For Every member of the Eagle Crest team, including this role, is expected to embody our core values: We Grow Together•We collaborate, support each other, and believe the best results come from working as one team.
