$80,000-$90,000 base Nirvana Recovery Center is seeking an experienced Business Development Representative to grow and strengthen professional referral relationships for our substance use treatment program. This role is ideal for someone who understands the behavioral health treatment landscape, enjoys building long-term professional relationships, and is comfortable being accountable for measurable referral and admissions growth. Responsibilities Develop, grow, and maintain professional referral relationships throughout New Jersey and surrounding markets. Generate appropriate referrals and admissions for substance use treatment services. Build relationships with therapists, psychiatrists, hospitals, treatment centers, interventionists, case managers, EAPs, physicians, sober living providers, and other behavioral health professionals. Identify and develop new referral sources while maintaining and expanding existing relationships. Conduct regular in-person visits with referral partners and prospective referral sources. Educate referral partners on Nirvana's programs, levels of care, clinical services, admission criteria, insurance relationships, and treatment capabilities. Coordinate and conduct presentations, lunch-and-learns, in-services, and other professional education opportunities. Attend industry conferences, networking events, professional meetings, and community events. Work closely with Admissions to ensure referred clients receive timely, professional follow-up. Maintain strong communication and follow-through with referral partners throughout the referral process. Serve as a resource to referral partners when a prospective client is not clinically or financially appropriate for Nirvana Recovery Center and assist with identifying alternative resources when appropriate. Maintain accurate documentation of outreach activity, referral relationships, follow-ups, and opportunities within the CRM. Track referral volume, admissions, conversion rates, account activity, and other agreed-upon business development KPIs. Develop and maintain an organized territory plan and outreach schedule. Provide leadership with market intelligence, competitive insights, and emerging referral opportunities. Collaborate with Admissions, Clinical, Marketing, and Operations to support organizational growth. Travel regularly throughout the assigned territory and attend occasional evening or weekend events. Qualifications 2-3+ years of experience in business development, outreach, referral relations, healthcare sales, account management, or a related role. Experience within behavioral health, mental health, substance use treatment, or a closely related healthcare field. Demonstrated ability to build and maintain professional referral relationships. Strong interpersonal, presentation, networking, and communication skills. Ability to independently manage a territory and maintain consistent follow-up. Comfortable working toward measurable referral, admissions, and relationship-development goals. Strong organizational skills and consistent CRM documentation practices. Valid driver's license, reliable transportation, and willingness to travel throughout the assigned territory. Strongly Preferred Existing behavioral health referral relationships within New Jersey or surrounding markets. Previous experience generating referrals or admissions for PHP, IOP, OP, residential, detox, or other behavioral health programs. Established relationships with therapists, psychiatrists, hospitals, interventionists, treatment centers, case managers, and other professional referral sources. Experience working with commercially insured behavioral health populations. Experience representing both mental health and substance use treatment services. Demonstrated history of meeting or exceeding referral or admissions growth goals. What We're Looking For We are looking for someone who approaches business development as relationship development, not simply sales. The right candidate will be professional, credible, organized, responsive, and comfortable representing Nirvana Recovery Center within the behavioral health community. They should understand that long-term referral relationships are built through trust, follow-through, clinical appropriateness, and being a reliable resource to professional partners. Compensation Competitive base salary based on experience, existing referral relationships, and demonstrated performance.
