60%+ Job Description Industrial paint and coatings company is seeking an experienced, commercially driven Senior Account Manager
  • Coil Coatings to manage, retain, and grow customer relationships within the industrial coil coatings market.
This role is responsible for serving as a senior commercial and technical resource for accounts, combining account leadership, new business development, customer-site technical service, coating-system evaluation, quality support, and issue resolution. The Senior Account Manager will develop a detailed understanding of each customer's operations, coil coating lines, application equipment, substrate characteristics, coating specifications, quality requirements, production objectives, and business priorities. The position will work closely with coil coating operators, production managers, quality control personnel, purchasing teams, technical personnel, and executive leadership to improve coating performance, application efficiency, customer satisfaction, and identify opportunities for growth, increased utilization, and new customer acquisition. This role requires a strong blend of industrial coatings knowledge, coil coating and metal processing familiarity, technical problem-solving capability, commercial judgment, and executive-level customer relationship management. The successful candidate will act as a trusted advisor and consultant on coatings to customers while coordinating with sales, laboratory, technical service, operations, and delivery teams to ensure reliable execution and sustained growth. Key Responsibilities Own and grow a portfolio of industrial coil coatings accounts, serving as the senior day-to-day contact for commercial, technical, product-performance, and service-related matters. Identify, prospect, qualify, and develop new business opportunities with coil coaters, steel and aluminum processors, metal service centers, and manufacturers operating continuous coating lines. Build and maintain trusted relationships with customer stakeholders, including owners, senior management, purchasing, operations, production managers, quality personnel, and coating-line operators. Develop account plans for key customers that address customer objectives, retention risks, competitive positioning, product opportunities, product requirements, and growth strategy. Conduct regular customer-site visits to evaluate coating performance, application conditions, surface preparation, coating quality, production practices, customer satisfaction, and emerging product needs. Provide technical and commercial support for industrial coatings used on galvanized steel, cold-rolled steel, aluminum, black steel, and other coil-coated metal substrates. Applications may include steel decking, building products, roofing, siding, metal panels, appliance components, and other fabricated metal products. Evaluate and advise on continuous coil coating processes, including roll coating, coating application and metering, pretreatment, drying and curing, and associated line equipment. Perform technical audits of customer coating operations, evaluating application equipment, coating consumption, film thickness, line speeds, curing conditions, process controls, and opportunities for improved operating efficiency. Evaluate coating performance, especially corrosion protection, durability, appearance, film build, flexibility, adhesion, abrasion resistance, and compatibility with subsequent forming or fabrication processes. Troubleshoot and coordinate resolution of customer concerns, including coating defects, adhesion failures, inconsistent film thickness, surface imperfections, curing problems, and other application or product-performance issues. Support and schedule product trials, new-customer qualifications, line startups, process changes, coating conversions, and evaluations of new coating technologies. Develop and present technical recommendations, commercial proposals, product specifications, and pricing. Work with customers to optimize coating application parameters, reduce waste, improve coating utilization, and maintain product quality at production line speeds. Coordinate laboratory, technical service, sales, operations, customer service, and delivery teams to ensure customer requirements are understood, service commitments are met, and issues are resolved promptly. Coordinate with internal commercial leadership on pricing, sales projections, market dynamics, contract renewals, and growth initiatives. Monitor customer activity and coil coating market conditions, including competitive developments, metal processing and manufacturing trends, customer production volumes, emerging coating specifications, environmental and health and safety considerations, and opportunities for new business and business growth. Maintain complete and accurate records, including customer contacts, customer interaction reports, service reports, sales opportunities, and customer issues. Prepare, disseminate, and archive customer-visit reports, technical-audit reports, corrective-action documentation, and associated follow-up activities. Follow all company and customer environmental, health, safety, quality, and security requirements, including safe chemical handling, required documentation, and appropriate use of personal protective equipment. Travel regularly and extensively to customer locations, industry events, prospective accounts, and account meetings; provide rapid-response support for urgent customer or production-related issues when needed. Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree or higher in chemistry, chemical engineering, materials science, metallurgy, business, or a related field; equivalent directly relevant industry experience may be considered in lieu. Minimum of three years of experience in industrial coatings, coil coating, metal processing, steel or aluminum manufacturing, or a closely related industry. Minimum of three years of experience in technical service, account management, technical sales, or coatings laboratory or production operations. Demonstrated experience managing complex customer relationships and developing new commercial opportunities. Record of success in corporate and/or account growth. Entrepreneurial spirit, strong self-motivation, and drive. Strong knowledge of industrial coatings, coil coating processes, metal substrates, coating application equipment, and common coating-performance issues. Familiarity with continuous coating lines, roll coaters, surface preparation, pretreatment, drying and curing systems, and coating quality-control procedures. Strong analytical, mathematical, troubleshooting, negotiation, presentation, and business strategic capabilities. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate effectively with production personnel, technical teams, purchasing contacts, plant management, and senior customer leadership. Demonstrated ability to independently manage priorities, customer issues, travel schedules, account plans, prospecting activities, and follow-up responsibilities. Valid driver's license and willingness to travel regularly and extensively throughout the assigned territory. Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel and Word, as well as CRM systems, technical-reporting tools, and relevant business software. Preferred Qualifications Minimum of six years of experience in industrial coatings, coil coating, metal processing, or related steel and aluminum manufacturing industries. Minimum of six years of experience in technical service, account management, technical sales, or coatings laboratory or production operations. Direct experience working with continuous coil coating lines, roll coating equipment, and associated pretreatment and curing systems. Established professional relationships within the coil coating, metal processing, or prepainted metal industries. Experience supporting coating trials, product qualifications, process optimization, and technical troubleshooting at customer manufacturing facilities.
