The Taxonomy Lab Sorter will assist with sorting and identifying research specimens using a microscope and will be responsible for maintaining accurate records and following established laboratory procedures. This is a part-time position well suited for someone with an interest in environmental science, biology, taxonomy, or laboratory research. Key Responsibilities Sort and organize environmental research specimens and samples according to established procedures. Examine specimens using a microscope and accurately distinguish and categorize materials. Record observations and sample information accurately. Maintain organized work areas and handle specimens appropriately. Follow laboratory protocols, safety procedures, and quality-control standards. Perform repetitive sorting and microscope-based tasks with a high level of attention to detail. Assist with other laboratory and research-related duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent. Some experience with environmental research. Basic computer skills. Strong attention to detail and ability to work accurately on repetitive tasks. Ability to follow written and verbal instructions and established laboratory procedures. No professional license or certification required. Physical Requirements Ability to lift and handle materials weighing up to 25 pounds . Ability to sit at a desk for extended periods. Ability to work with a microscope for extended periods. Ability to perform repetitive hand and visual tasks while maintaining accuracy. Work Environment The Taxonomy Lab Sorter works primarily in a laboratory environment and should be comfortable performing detailed, repetitive work that requires concentration, patience, and consistent accuracy.
