Full Job Description Laboratory Chemist Job Description:
AccuLabs Environmental (AccuLabs) is a growing environmental laboratory specializing in the analysis of metals, organics, sulfur compounds, siloxanes and inorganic gases in ambient air and emission source and fuel samples. AccuLabs is currently seeking a full-time Environmental Laboratory Chemist (Chemist) for our laboratory in Tustin, California. AccuLabs seeks a Chemist who is proactive, organized, analytical and has a technical education in Chemistry or a closely related field of study. Experience using GC/TCD, GC/MS and/or ICP/MS instruments for analysis of gaseous samples is preferred. Familiarization with

Methodology is needed. Knowledge and understanding of South Coast Air Quality Management District Rules for emission compliance is desirable. This position offers career growth to the applicant that is self-motivated, hardworking and has entrepreneurial spirit with a path to becoming Lab Director in a three-to-five-year timeframe. This position requires communicating with staff from regulatory agencies in addition to AccuLabs' business customers whether by email, phone, video conference, in a group setting or individually, or occasionally at a client's facility. In addition to QA/QC procedures for instrument calibration and sample analysis, AccuLabs maintains an
ISO 9001
quality management system (QMS) covering all laboratory activities. The Chemist will participate in the QMS and comply with policies and procedures related to document control, operations, customer service, and improvement. The Chemist will work under the direction of the Lead Chemist, the Office Manager and the Quality Manager.
Duties and Responsibilities:
This position will involve a range of analytical project types primarily related to air quality regulatory compliance. In addition to receiving, preparing, and analyzing samples, the Chemist will perform emission calculations, control efficiency calculations and regulatory analysis. Essential duties of this position may include: Receiving, logging and analysis of air samples for VOCs, Sulfur Compounds, Organic Siloxanes and Inorganic Gases by GC/TCD and GC/MS. Receiving, inspecting, logging and analysis of air samples for lead, arsenic and other toxic metals by ICP/MS. Reviewing chromatographic and QA/QC data to ensure it meets established criteria. Calibrating and validating instruments. Performing Quality Control (QC) of analysis data and maintaining quality control data records. Preparing and recording data, interpreting results and preparing analytical reports. Preparing sample collection equipment for shipment to customers. Identifying opportunities for improvement in work processes and quality. Developing and applying new analytical methods. Performing routine preventative maintenance on laboratory equipment. Managing inventory of laboratory equipment and supplies and reordering as necessary. Maintaining safety and cleanliness of the lab environment. Maintaining laboratory documentation related to analysis and training. Provide accurate and effective responses to customer requests and inquiries. Engage in critical thinking regarding all aspects of laboratory operations and customer engagement. Performing other duties and take on additional responsibilities as assigned.
Requirements:
Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry or a closely related degree. Minimum 2 years related experience (preferred) or Master of Science degree in Chemistry or a closely related degree. Understanding of basic mathematics and chemistry equations. Experience with GC/TCD, GC/MS and/or ICP/MS beneficial. Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
