Location:
St. Louis, MO Incumbents in this position apply public health and epidemiological principles to environmental health issues affecting the St. Louis metro area.
Duties include:
developing data collection tools for surveys; collecting, managing, manipulating and analyzing data; applying statistical (descriptive and inferential) methodologies and applying GIS applications in report outputs. This position is responsible for developing epidemiology briefs and programmatic reports related to Environmental Health and assists with program performance evaluation using the Health Equity Eye. This position occasionally works a flexible schedule to include some evening and weekend hours.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
Applies public health and epidemiological principles to behavioral health issues affecting the St. Louis metro area. Develops data collection tools for surveys. Collects, manages, manipulates and analyzes data. Applies statistical (descriptive and inferential) methodologies. Applies GIS applications in report outputs. Completes weekly, monthly, and annual reports covering essential indicators under the Environmental Health programs. Updates behavioral health and performance management dashboards. Develops epidemiology briefs and programmatic reports related to behavioral health. Develops, reviews and edits program proposals and abstract/conference materials. Assists with program performance evaluation using the Health Equity eye. Attends various partners meetings on behavioral health. Supports QI initiative in the Behavioral Health Bureau.

Data Utilization:
Requires the ability to perform mid-level data analysis including the ability to audit, deduce, assess, conclude and appraise. Requires discretion in determining and referencing such to established criteria to define consequences and develop alternatives.
Human Interaction:
Requires the ability to provide guidance, assistance and/or interpretation to others, such as coworkers, health care professional, counselors, educators, health care organizations and the public, on how to apply epidemiological principles in specific situations.
Equipment, Machinery, Tools and Materials Use:
Requires the ability to operate, maneuver and/or provide simple but continuous adjustment on equipment, machinery and tools such as motor vehicle, computer terminal, photocopier, telephone, and/or materials used in performing essential functions.
Verbal Aptitude:
Requires the ability to utilize a variety of reference and statistical surveillance data, such as public health, social and economic trends, local, state and federal regulations, epidemiological profiles, regional and geographical applications.
Mathematical Aptitude:
Requires the ability to perform addition, subtraction, multiplication and division; calculate percentage and decimals; perform mathematical operations involving basic algebra; interpret descriptive statistical reports. Functional Reasoning:
Requires the ability to apply principles of influence systems such as leading, teaching, directing, planning and coordinating. Ability to exercise independent judgment to apply facts and principles for developing approaches and techniques to problem resolution.

Environmental Factors:
Work is normally performed in an office environment under generally safe and comfortable conditions, but tasks may risk exposure to adverse environmental conditions such as disease.
Physical Requirements:
Requires the ability to lift, push and pull books and presentation materials.
Sensory Requirements:
Requires the ability to recognize and identify similarities or differences between characteristics of sounds to communicate with others. Qualifications A Master's degree in Epidemiology, Public Health, Biostatistics, or related field; plus six months of professional experience in public health epidemiology which includes investigation, analysis, prevention, surveillance and/or control of disease.
Preferences:
Experience with data management and analysis. Experience with survey software/applications. Some knowledge of evidence-based best practices for community health
License:
Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license while employed by the City of St. Louis. Must possess a valid driver's license at the time of filing application and be able to present it upon request. City residents must have resided in the City for at least one (1) year at the time of filing their application to be eligible for the preference points.
