We are seeking a hands-on Food Scientist for product development. This is bench work, every day: formulating, mixing, cooking, baking, testing and documenting. This is a food product development role. It is not a only quality assurance position, and it is not a general chemistry, clinical or analytical laboratory position. Direct experience developing food products is required. You will work in our test kitchen and lab, reporting directly to the Chief Product Development Officer. You will execute formulation trials, iterate on recipes, and take products from bench prototype to commercial production.
Duties Execute daily bench trials:
weigh, mix, cook, bake, evaluate, iterate and document Run formulation trials and ingredient substitutions, repeating and refining until the product performs Develop and improve products from benchtop prototyping through scale-up and commercial production Build and maintain formulas, batch sheets, specifications and laboratory procedures Conduct analytical and sensory testing to validate product attributes and monitor them through shelf life Support production runs at manufacturing partners during scale-up Support quality activities as needed, including ingredient verification and finished product release Requirements Bachelor of Science in Food Science or Food Technology. Degrees in Chemistry, Biology or Chemical Engineering are considered only when combined with direct experience developing food products 1 to 4 years of hands-on experience developing food products in a test kitchen, bench lab or pilot plant Demonstrated experience formulating and reformulating food products, not only testing or inspecting them Comfortable spending most of the day on hands-on kitchen and bench work Strong documentation discipline Fluent English Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs and stand for extended periods in kitchen, laboratory and production environments PCQI or HACCP certification is a plus Experience with shelf-stable products or contract manufacturing is a plus Conversational Spanish is a plus Please note: quality assurance, quality control, clinical, medical, environmental, pharmaceutical and other non-food-development laboratory experience does not meet the requirements for this role. Schedule and travel Monday through Friday, 9:00 am to 5:00 pm, on-site in Orlando Willingness to work a variable schedule to meet the needs of the operation, including early starts during production runs Travel up to 15%, as required Join a small team where you will learn a specialized formulation approach directly from the person who developed it, and see the products you work on reach the shelf quickly.
