Job Description

We are a growing better-for-you food brand based in Orlando. We are seeking a hands-on Food Scientist to support product development and quality assurance, from bench prototype through commercial production. This role is based in our test kitchen and lab, reporting directly to the Chief Product Development Officer. You will run trials, test and document, and support production at our manufacturing partners. This is an early role on a small team, with broad exposure across the full product process. Duties Develop and improve products from benchtop prototyping through scale-up and commercial production Run daily bench trials: prototype, evaluate, iterate and document Build and maintain formulas, specifications, batch sheets and laboratory procedures Conduct analytical and sensory testing to validate product attributes and monitor them through shelf life Design and execute shelf life studies and establish expiration dates based on data Verify incoming ingredients and support finished product release, including certificates of analysis Support production runs at manufacturing partners, from pre-operational inspection through product disposition Investigate quality issues to root cause and implement corrective actions Willingness to work a variable schedule to meet the needs of the operation, including early starts during production runs Requirements Bachelor of Science in Food Science, Food Technology, Chemistry, Biology, Chemical Engineering or a related field 1 to 4 years of experience in food product development, quality assurance, a pilot plant or a food laboratory Hands-on bench and kitchen experience, with strong documentation discipline Fluent English Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs and stand for extended periods in kitchen, laboratory and production environments PCQI or HACCP certification is a plus Experience with shelf-stable products or contract manufacturing is a plus Conversational Spanish is a plus Schedule and travel Monday through Friday, 9:00 am to 5:00 pm, on-site in Orlando. Willingness to work a variable schedule to meet the needs of the operation, including early starts during production runs. Travel up to 15%, as required. Pay:
$58,000.00 - $68,000.00 per year
