Job Description

About the Role Environmental Management Services, Inc. (EMS) is seeking experienced Mid-to-Senior Level Civil/Environmental Engineers or Geologists to join our team supporting a wide range of civil engineering and environmental consulting projects for private, industrial, commercial, and governmental clients across the Southeastern United States. This role is ideal for a motivated professional who thrives on direct client and regulatory interaction, technical leadership, and end-to-end project involvement. You will play a key role in regulatory compliance, site investigations, development, and complex remediation projects — moving beyond routine tasks to deliver high-impact technical solutions and strategic support. Key Responsibilities Lead and conduct field investigations, including groundwater and soil sampling, drilling oversight, remediation system operations, and site inspections at industrial and UST sites. Prepare and review high-quality technical deliverables, such as Phase I and Phase II Environmental Site Assessments (ESAs), groundwater monitoring reports, corrective action plans, remedial action plans, and regulatory correspondence. Manage and provide technical oversight for large-scale remediation projects, including data analysis, system performance evaluation, construction monitoring, and operational optimization. Oversee NPDES permitting, monitoring, compliance inspections, and reporting programs. Develop, implement, and manage Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plans (SWPPPs) and conduct stormwater compliance inspections. Prepare and maintain Spill Prevention, Control, and Countermeasure (SPCC) plans while coordinating spill response activities. Lead hazardous waste management efforts, including waste characterization, container management, and regulatory documentation. Coordinate effectively with subcontractors, laboratories, drilling contractors, and remediation vendors. Represent EMS in client meetings, regulatory inspections, and compliance audits. Track project schedules, budgets, and deliverables while proactively managing risks and client expectations. Mentor junior staff and contribute to the continuous improvement of technical standards and project delivery. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Environmental Engineering, Civil Engineering, Geological Engineering, or Geology (ABET-accredited engineering degree preferred). Professional license (P.E. or P.G.) preferred; candidates actively pursuing licensure are strongly encouraged to apply. 7+ years of relevant environmental consulting or industry experience. Demonstrated ability and willingness to perform field work in industrial and construction environments. Strong technical writing, data evaluation, problem-solving, and professional communication skills. Valid driver's license and ability to travel to project sites as needed. Preferred Qualifications In-depth working knowledge of federal and state environmental regulations (NPDES, RCRA, CERCLA). Hands-on experience with groundwater monitoring programs, stormwater compliance, and remediation system design/operation. Strong background in SPCC plans, SWPPPs, and hazardous waste management. Experience with health and safety program implementation, including OSHA standards, site-specific HASPs, and contractor safety oversight. Prior experience in environmental consulting or at a regulatory agency. What Success Looks Like Delivering accurate, defensible, and regulator-ready technical work that withstands scrutiny. Managing field and office activities with a strong focus on safety, efficiency, quality, and client satisfaction. Demonstrating sound professional judgment that balances technical excellence with project risk, cost, and schedule considerations. Building trusted relationships with clients, regulators, and internal teams. Taking full ownership of projects and tasks from scoping through successful completion. Compensation and Benefits Competitive salary commensurate with experience and qualifications. Comprehensive health, dental, and vision insurance. 401(k) with profit sharing. Generous paid time off and holidays. Professional development support, including training, conference attendance, and licensure reimbursement. Why Join EMS? EMS is a multidisciplinary engineering and environmental consulting firm delivering practical, compliant, and sustainable solutions to clients throughout the Southeast. You'll have the opportunity to work on diverse, challenging projects while supported by in-house geospatial capabilities and advanced field equipment. This role offers significant autonomy, direct client exposure, and a clear path for continued professional growth.
