Job Description
Technical Specialist Microbiology (ASCP Certified) Reno, Nevada Day Shift Full-Time Permanent Direct Hire Position Summary We are seeking an experienced Technical Specialist in Microbiology to join a growing laboratory team in Reno, Nevada. This day shift position is responsible for overseeing technical operations within the microbiology department while ensuring accurate, timely, and high-quality laboratory testing in compliance with regulatory and accreditation standards. The ideal candidate will bring strong microbiology expertise, leadership abilities, and a commitment to quality patient care in a fast-paced clinical laboratory environment. Key Responsibilities
Perform and oversee complex microbiology testing procedures including bacteriology, mycology, parasitology, virology, and molecular microbiology testing.
Ensure accurate interpretation and reporting of laboratory results in accordance with established policies and procedures.
Serve as a technical resource and subject matter expert for microbiology staff and laboratory leadership.
Assist with method validations, instrument troubleshooting, calibration, maintenance, and implementation of new procedures.
Maintain compliance with CAP, CLIA, OSHA, and other regulatory standards.
Participate in competency assessments, staff training, and continuing education initiatives.
Collaborate with pathologists, physicians, infection prevention teams, and laboratory personnel to support optimal patient care.
Review workflows and recommend process improvements to enhance laboratory efficiency and turnaround times.
Maintain accurate documentation and support laboratory inspections and audits. Qualifications
Bachelor s Degree in Medical Laboratory Science, Clinical Laboratory Science, Microbiology, or related field required.
ASCP certification required (MLS(ASCP), MT(ASCP), or M(ASCP .
Nevada Clinical Laboratory Scientist license or eligibility preferred.
Minimum of 3-5 years of microbiology laboratory experience preferred.
Previous technical specialist, lead tech, or supervisory experience strongly preferred.
Strong knowledge of microbiology principles, instrumentation, quality systems, and regulatory standards. Preferred Skills and Competencies

Strong communication and leadership abilities.
Experience with laboratory information systems (LIS) and electronic medical records.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a high-volume laboratory setting.
