Job Description
Technical Specialist Microbiology (ASCP Certified) Reno, Nevada Day Shift Full-Time Permanent Direct Hire Position Summary We are seeking an experienced Technical Specialist in Microbiology to join a growing laboratory team in Reno, Nevada. This day shift position is responsible for overseeing technical operations within the microbiology department while ensuring accurate, timely, and high-quality laboratory testing in compliance with regulatory and accreditation standards. The ideal candidate will bring strong microbiology expertise, leadership abilities, and a commitment to quality patient care in a fast-paced clinical laboratory environment. Key Responsibilities
- Perform and oversee complex microbiology testing procedures including bacteriology, mycology, parasitology, virology, and molecular microbiology testing.
- Ensure accurate interpretation and reporting of laboratory results in accordance with established policies and procedures.
- Serve as a technical resource and subject matter expert for microbiology staff and laboratory leadership.
- Monitor quality control, quality assurance, proficiency testing, and corrective action processes.
- Assist with method validations, instrument troubleshooting, calibration, maintenance, and implementation of new procedures.
- Maintain compliance with CAP, CLIA, OSHA, and other regulatory standards.
- Participate in competency assessments, staff training, and continuing education initiatives.
- Collaborate with pathologists, physicians, infection prevention teams, and laboratory personnel to support optimal patient care.
- Review workflows and recommend process improvements to enhance laboratory efficiency and turnaround times.
- Maintain accurate documentation and support laboratory inspections and audits. Qualifications
- Bachelor s Degree in Medical Laboratory Science, Clinical Laboratory Science, Microbiology, or related field required.
- ASCP certification required (MLS(ASCP), MT(ASCP), or M(ASCP .
- Nevada Clinical Laboratory Scientist license or eligibility preferred.
- Minimum of 3-5 years of microbiology laboratory experience preferred.
- Previous technical specialist, lead tech, or supervisory experience strongly preferred.
- Strong knowledge of microbiology principles, instrumentation, quality systems, and regulatory standards. Preferred Skills and Competencies

- Strong communication and leadership abilities.
- Experience with laboratory information systems (LIS) and electronic medical records.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a high-volume laboratory setting.
