Incumbent serves as a technical expert in health physics, radiation protection safety, and radiation risk assessment for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USAGE) national Hazardous, Toxic a Radioactive Waste (HTRW) Center of Expertise(CX).

Health Physicist:

1.

Degree:

natural science or engineering that included at least 30 semester hours in health physics, engineering, radiological science, chemistry, physics, biology, mathematics, and/or calculus. OR 2. Combination of education and experience -- courses as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or other education; or certification as a health physicist by the American Board of Health Physics, plus appropriate experience and other education that provided an understanding of sciences applicable to health physics comparable to that described in paragraph A. In addition to the basic requirement above, applicants must meet specialized experience.

Specialized experience:

One year of specialized experience which includes:1) reviewing site documents for projects to ensure compliance with regulations; 2) interpreting toxicological and health physical data; 3) developing, reviewing, and/or recommending applicable technical policies and procedures; and 4) participating in meetings with contractors and agency stakeholders. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-12). Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
