Purpose:

Stewards Individual Placements (Stewards), a program of Conservation Legacy, provides individuals with internships service and career opportunities to strengthen communities and preserve our natural resources. Historic structures and features in our national parks are constantly in need of thoughtful and careful preservation, repair, and maintenance. By assisting and working alongside HPTC on these preservation projects the Intern will directly improve the physical conditions of a nationally significant park space that is accessed and enjoyed by thousands of visitors a year. This member position will be assigned to the Monuments Section within the Historic Preservation Training Center of the National Park Service. Member will learn monument preservation activities, such as how to appropriately clean historic masonry and bronze, masonry repairs such as removing and replacing mortar joints, patching and crack injection repairs, and bronze conservation work.
