Job Description

MOUNTAIN BROOK SCHOOLS JOB DESCRIPTION TITLE
High School Counselor
REPORTS TO
High School Principal
JOB QUALIFICATIONS
  • Master's degree or higher in school counseling
  • Alabama Certification in School Counseling
JOB GOAL
Address needs of students in areas of academic success, personal/social functioning, career exploration.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Develops, implements, and evaluates local school guidance plan in accordance with standards set forth in local system plan and State plan.
  • Provides individual counseling and guidance.
  • Consults with parents/guardians, teachers, staff about needs of students.
  • Attends counselor meetings, professional development, and maintains a professional development plan.
  • Consults with colleagues and with Director of Student Services regarding student needs.
  • Provides orientation for new students, parents/guardians, and faculty.
  • Administers tests and analyzes and interprets test results.
  • Serves as building test coordinator.
  • Assists students in selecting courses.
  • Participates in teams, including Professional Learning Communities, Building Based Student Support Team, 504 team, Special Education/IEP team and others as directed by principal.
  • Maintains appropriate records and reports.
  • Provides information and resource services for students and parents/guardians.
  • Exhibits positive human relations skills.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in oral communication.
  • Complies with local, state, and federal policies, regulations, and laws affecting areas of responsibility. Abides by appropriate professional Code of Ethics.
  • Maintains appropriate professional licenses and memberships.
  • Serves as a crisis counselor when need arises, sometimes necessitating deviation from typical work hours.
  • Other responsibilities as assigned by administration.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
Ten-month position. Salary based on Mountain Brook Teacher's Salary Schedule.
EVALUATION
Performance will be evaluated in accordance with Board policies on evaluation of professional personnel.
