School Counselor (Part-Time) Summa Academy - 3.0 Walnut Creek, CA Job Details Part-time From $120 an hour 7 hours ago Qualifications School experience Teamwork Experience working with individuals with autism Employee relationship building Master's degree Experience working with individuals with trauma-related disorders Working with students Full Job Description Summa Academy is seeking a compassionate and skilled School Counselor to support the social-emotional development, behavioral well-being, and academic progress of our elementary and middle school students. This role will primarily serve students on the autism spectrum in a non-public school setting and requires experience with neurodivergent learners, trauma-informed practices, and multidisciplinary collaboration. The counselor will work closely with teachers, behavior staff, families, and external service providers to ensure students are supported holistically.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Deliver individual and small group counseling to support students with issues related to emotional regulation, peer relationships, self-advocacy, and school readiness. Use data-driven practices to identify student needs and inform support plans. Collaborate closely with classroom staff, BCBAs, and other support professionals to integrate counseling strategies into students' daily routines. Participate in IEP meetings and contribute to the development of social-emotional and behavioral goals; provide input on present levels and accommodations as needed. Provide crisis support, including safety assessments and coordination with appropriate internal or external supports. Engage families with empathy and professionalism; provide updates, resources, and strategies for continuity between home and school. Support schoolwide wellness initiatives, such as staff PDs, student mindfulness programs, or classroom-based SEL integration. Maintain accurate, confidential records of counseling sessions and interventions in accordance with ethical and legal standards. Contribute to a positive school climate through staff consultation, collaboration, and participation in professional learning.

Desired Education and Qualifications:
Master's degree in counseling, School Psychology, or a related field California Pupil Personnel Services (PPS) Credential or clinical license (e.g., LCSW, LMFT, LPCC) Experience working in a school setting with students with autism and/or other developmental differences Familiarity with IEP processes and multidisciplinary collaboration Commitment to equity, inclusion, and culturally responsive practices

Maintain student performance data and documentation. Work Environment & Physical Demands:
The position typically operates on-site, in-person, in a school environment with business hours, Monday-Friday, 8:00-5:00 pm. The employee may be required to intervene and de-escalate physical and emotional outbursts by students, including such behaviors as kicking, spitting, hitting, scratching, biting, running, and cursing; the employee must be able to run quickly for brief spurts. While performing the duties and responsibilities of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear, stand, move and walk at a brisk pace, sit, and use hands and arms to handle, feel and reach. The position requires the ability to accompany students anywhere on school premises, including supporting with toileting and other basic needs The employee is occasionally required to stoop or kneel and occasionally lift and move up to 50 pounds.
